Commonwealth Games Australia boss Craig Phillips said that Daniel Andrews is grossly exaggerating the cost of the games. Sour politics at play here I suspect, but I don’t think it's the end of the games. I read elsewhere that Sadiq Khan has said that London will be happy to host. Perhaps he'll use the money from the extortionate green taxes he's imposing upon motorists.
the state PM ( victoria) said it was a straighforward ( plus or minus) decision
but didnt count the extra bits like tourists coming over and buying tinnies....
an oz being a kill-joy - wonders never cease.
all the olympic games were loss makers until the one in America
a likely end of the commonwealth is to be when they decide the Head is elective and should NOT be Wills
(shades of the Aliens Bill er 1702 - scorts parliament passed a bill which said the successor to Queen Anne as monarch of Scortland should NOT be the Monarch of England - obvious political crisis occurred)
Are you serious TTT??
yes he is, and that is the Great Pity
leave commonwealth - a few want Presidents - ( who are current Prime Ministers) and want to act up like the QUEEN - but they can stay in the commonwealth
ONE ( Angola) was not part of the british empire ( portuguese) and was accepted.
Denver did that yonks ago - awarded the Winter Olympics but decided not to hold them after all, because of the cost. I remember the moaning on AB at the cost of the London Olympics, so it's no surprise if Victorians also decide the games aren't worth the candle.
I was amazed at that there London Olympics in 2012 opening and closing ceremonies. If they scrap them maybe they can afford to host the games .What gets me is Why the bid in the first place.
Maybe times were not so hard when they put the bid in? I dont think anyone could foresee what a plandemic and a war in Ukraine would do to the World economy.
Countries that are making noises about leaving are Belize, Bahamas,Jamaica, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis and St Lucia whike Australia, New Zealand and Canada have strong republican movements but say they would still support the British monarch, whatever that means.
What do you think Naomi? On the one hand you're criticising someone for cancelling the games and on the other you're criticising someone else for offering to host them. Which way do you think it should go?
