It's hunan nature to make ourselves feel better by looking down on others to varying degrees.
That can be looking down on people who don't share our beliefs, or lack of them, at one end, to making a start on wiping them off the face of the earth on the other, and everything in between.
People will believe what makes them feel better, including the validity of their own beliefs, and the invalidity of others.
Our media feeds those fears because fears bind us together.
You have to remember that the vast majority of all faiths, including Islam, are happy enough to go along not bothering anyone, and hoping for the same.

I have no hatred whatsoever for Muslims, but Islam..... Well, why would anyone in Britain hate Islam? Could it possibly be the Lockerbie bombings which left 270 innocent people dead? Or perhaps the 7/7 suicide bombings by muslims I'm London which killed 52 innocent people, and left 700 injured? Perhaps it could be the 2007 attempt to bomb Glasgow Airport? Or the stabbing of MP Stephen Timms by a muslim? Or potentially the mowing down and decapitation of British soldier Lee Rigby as he walked along a street, by two Islamic fundamentalists? That may cause a little friction against the so-called religion of peace, possibly? Or maybe it was the 2017 London Bridge attack, where a muslim killed 4 innocent people and injured 50 others, and a policeman was butchered to death outside Parliament? Why would that cause anyone to feel a little perturbed about Islam? Oh wait, could it be the 2017 Manchester Arena bombings, where 2 muslim brothers took it upon themselves to murder 22 children, and injure 139 others? Maybe that was it. Or maybe it was the 3 Muslims who committed the 2017 London Bridge attack which left 8 people dead and 48 wounded? Could it be this? Then there's the London Bridge stabbings which left 2 innocent people dead and 3 others seriously wounded. Or the Reading stabbings in 2020 where a muslim killed 3 people in broad daylight? If that isn't enough, perhaps the brutal murder of Sir David Amesa by a Muslim in 2021, where he was knifed to death serving his constituents in a village hall? Or perhaps it was the attempted bombing of Liverpool Women's hospital by a Muslim in 2021? It's mysterious isn't it? Tell us, why do you think people 'hate Islam'? It would be interesting to hear your perspective.
