I work in an open plan office. An incident has happened recently that I have accidently stumbled accross in conversation with a collegue. There are a group of us that work closely day to day. Recently while I was holiday and my other collegue wasn't at his desk one of staff in another department came over with a packet of biscuits to say thanks for helping him out with a few urgents jobs. The helpful people we are, we occasionally get given things like bottles of beer, the odd cooked breakfast, sweets etc. This is all very kind, although we are merely doing our job. However the biscuits were given to one particular member of the team to be shared out to all of us.. whats has got me a little perturbed is that these seem to have been kept by this indivual, and appears that he has eaten them all himself. No mention of them at all to my collegue, or when i returned from holiday. Its only that the member of staff giving them in thanks, made a passing comment that i have now discovered this has happend. Don't get me wrong its only a packet of biscuits and I really am not upset about not being offered any, but the fact that this individual has kep them all, eaten them all and no mention of them nor offered any to anyone else. And to be honest and quite frank, he really doesn't need the extra pounds by eating them cause he is rather obese anyway. Im a little unsure how to handle this situation and perhaps anyone can offer options, do I say anything, do i mention he really is acting and starting to look like the pilbury dough boy and eating a whole packet of buscuits is rather greedy!, what does everyone think?

All you've lost is a couple of hobnobs; all he's gained is a couple of pounds, and his weight isn't your problem either. This is absolutely not worth fretting about.
Obviously, if the next freebie handed around is �100 notes, make sure your share doesn't go missing. But don't fret about biscuits.

Whilst I agree with the other posts I do understand your feeling. Its the small, petty things that really get to me. Putting out milk bottles, new loo rolls, un-jamming the fax machine - all seem to be left to me in this office. The problem with not letting these pass is that they build up into one massive gripe and then you blow over a minor thing and people think you are being petty over an empty sugar bowl!! Annoying I know, but just let it go!!
You really have too much time on your hands if you can allocate brain space to something so innocuous. If you really want to make a point say nothing and buy him whole box of those broken biscuits you can get. Then dump it on his desk with some smart remark like "In case you run out!" He should see the point then!

Scanning, I sort of agree with the majority of posts here re: about keeping it in perspective. However, I can also see you're a sensitive person and why you're morally aggrieved - it's only a little thing, but it rankles. And ali's right - if fat boy becomes a serial offender, there could be a (cumulative) explosion on your part. So it might be best to forget it for now. Mind you, if I were you, I'd tell your mate from the other department what happened, and just contrive to talk about the biscuits "in passing"/ "as an aside" in front of the individual in question...just to make a non-specific point...

Scanning- The guy likes to eat, and he doesn't like to share. He's not a child though, and it would be out of place for you to tell him he needs to 'learn' to share. To each his own..if you want to get back at him bring a nice chocolate cake in...cut a peice for everyone you want to have a peice...and don't cut one for him. When he says 'Where's my piece of cake?' say to him 'Well where's MY BUSCUIT?!'
