This was the answer I posted to the Russians question,(before it was removed lol ) on whether she was a virgin being a lesbian, so thought I would post it anyway as its an interesting subject.
That is up to you to decide, ones virginity is more of a mental thing than a physical one, the tearing of the hymen does not mean loss of virginity, that depends on how the hymen was torn and how you feel about it. generally speaking, virginity is lost by male penetration and perceived that way by the law, but I think in your case it is up to how you feel about it. In some situations the hymen is not actually torn on male penetration yet she has lost her virginity.
When a woman is raped as a virgin, I think she has the right to claim herself a virgin until she gives herself to her chosen lover, the law may see this differently however.
In my personal female opinion, I considered myself a 'virgin' until I had full penetrative (penile) sex. Before this I had used tampons for years and did not think this made any difference to my virginity.
I also dont understand how a female can be penetrated and the hymen left intact as it is a membrane that occludes the vagina. Im assuming you are referring to vaginal penetration? Tell me more.
Alijangra, the hymen is a membrane with a small opening in which a tampon can usually pass through without causing tearing or damage, the same applies to a penis in some situations, a small penis and a flexible hymen for instance.
