A friend of mine went to work there a few winters back - not as a chalet maid, don't do that - but in one of the bars. There are some great bars and nightlife in Chamonix. He had a fantastic time! Working in a bar meant that he got lots of free drinks, partying and attention (!) did not have to get up early in the morning to feed people or clean their chalet and had the whole day free to ski as much as he wanted. If this sounds like your thing, go for it.
I think if you keep putting psychological obstacles in the way you will never get anywhere. If you have been inside a bar, I am sure you could work in one. Just the ability to add up, take away, etc and pour drinks with a smile and some charm. If that really doesnt appeal then there are other opportunities, you just have to have the nuts to go and do it. Some of your own ideas would be a start.
flowers1 dont think about it too much, one day I booked a flight to palma spain and ended up working as a PR for a bar for 4 months, it was the best time of my life and I ment my ex there. All I did was book a flight and 5 days in a hotel as a saftey net. As I went alone i ment 100's of more people than if id gone with someone even though it was a little scarey, well worth it, JUST DON'T THINK TOO MUCH!!!
