At one time all washing powders were made from granulated soap (Persil) or shaved soap (Lux flakes). The only ones I know of that are still made that way are Dreft (powder) and Lux (flakes).
Back in those days, there were no liquid detergents, and dishes were washed using the like of Persil.
The first liquid detergent was Teepol. It's still being made on an industrial basis, and forms the basis of many washing-up liquids (and shampoos!). Squezy was the first available washing-up liquid, and Tide, if not the first, was one of the first, powdered detergents produced for washing clothes.
