I have to go to a Pakistani wedding, but it states on the invitation that no boxed gifts to be given, so does this mean money has to be given? if so do you give cheque or cash?

If I gave cash - I would probably use a check to do it.
I will be interested to hear someone who knows if this is a typical Pakistani tradition or just one couple who are rude enough to ask for cash only gifts.

Money is the traditional gift at Hindu, Sikh and Muslim weddings.
At a Sikh wedding the money is put in to the laps of the bride and groom:

And it is tradition in Muslim weddings to receive gifts of money in a sealed envelope.
