Platonic relationships

Is there such a thing? If a relationship starts out on a platonic footing, is it possible for a man and a woman to maintain a friendship indefinitely on that basis, or is it inevitable that after time, the intentions of one or the other, or both, will change?

Acquaintances (male) no problem. Friendships - I would never even jokingly have physical contact with a male friend as I would with a female - I mean the arms around the shoulder, even hugging. A light greeting peck is fine, nothing more. Men can't take it, they simply want more the more they get to know you. It is really frustrating hence I don't invite male friendships.
I think a fact of life in my experience is that Men are only good for 2 things - having kids and money....if they are accommodating.

I'm just saying. I do believe there are some good men out there - not many but some. I also know of men who are having affairs yet are happily married. I'm just saying that you can't put anything past a man. If not today, then tomorrow. I'm talking about friendships developing - I don't believe they can stay platonic, the relationship is generally how the woman predicts it that is if she is attractive and fit not the physically challenged ones. (Men are safe with them.) And before I press submit - I am not accusing anyone of being 'fat' or 'ugly' that includes their partners.
