Are you satisfied your house/property is in the right band for paying Coucil Tax?
It may well be worth challenging your local council to check it out.
Yesterday a friend of a friend told me, she.....[the friend of a friend] had recieved a decent size rebate on the grounds the property had been in the wrong band since CT was introduced back on 1993.
Apparently if this is the case rebate is returned to the payee for all those years.
Take a few minutes to look into it.

Around ten years ago I challenged the council regarding council tax and the rating band which I was in.
Initialy they said I was too late in applying as the banding had already been assesed for this financial year.
Not being too worried I asked them if they would treat my application as an early application for next year.. and would it be backdated ? ......

Of course, but I am pretty sure if it was remotely possible to be higher you wouldn't challenge them in the first place.
Not only did the recipient get the refund but, they had moved from the property a few years ago. All the other residents in similar properties from the street got the same refund.
The new owner got the few years since they bought the house.

About a month later I got a letter saying 'they re-assesed me and I was now in the next band down, and as I had overpaid in previous years I was now in credit for the rest of the year ... they also included a cheque for around £800.
... all my neighbours have applied and got re-banded, and as long as we stay at this property, we will stay in the same lower band.
It was definitely worth applying ... and it was the ratings officer that I applied to in the first place.
If you dont ask ... they wont offer..!

we live in a house which is identical to the semi we are semi-ed with. The only difference between the two properties is the address. Their house is on one road and our on another (corner houses built at an angle). Our band in one higher than theirs. I challenged this and was told that the bands as set are correct and that we could not appeal this.
