this social network is called www.renren.com - its all in chinese but with google translator i managed to read it

but im stuck

i got my email address in - password - d.o.b

but theres one box that asks for "my real chinese name" - ive tried everything! my name in english, chinese, random things, numbers, numbers and letters, everything but nothing seems to work... can anyone help me???

Perhaps it requires proper chinese (manderin?) characters. If so copy some from a chinese site and paste in a Word document so you can remember your 'name'. You may have to enable Word to store/recognise Chinese characters.

Excuse me for asking, but am I missing something here? Why would you want to join a website you can't understand and presumably can't contribute to?

Knowing the Chinese, you need to enter a name that it can look up in an ID database, so that when you post something that's not quite orthodox, they can pop round and cart you off to jail. (I think the last Labour Government were hoping to do something similar).
