Hello, I am currently trying to report a convicted sex offender to facebook. However, they will not even look over the report unless I can provide documentation proving that they are, as stated - a convicted sex offender.

Documentation can be either:
*a link to a listing in a national sex offender registry
*a link to an online news article
*court document uploaded to their form

Now. If I wanted to get my hands on the original court transcript, it was going to cost me £350, so I haven't got it. I don't have anything else that could be used. The uk sex offenders register is unavailable to the public, and the story wasn't in the news.. What can I do? I know that this man is who he is because my sister has had contact with him via his facebook profile.

He was convicted in 2008, is on the sex offenders register for 5 years.. HOW can I prove this to facebook?!

For anyone following this question, the offender has now been removed from facebook, the police have kept me updated every step of the way and have sent him a warning that he's not to use facebook or other similar sites and that he is now being monitored.

:)
Great news, Lou!
Well done Lou
Just continue to report because even your evidence is not a complete evidence it still helpful so the people on facebook will get the attention about this concerned. Media URL: http://www.menshealthinstitute.org/
Description:
I am in the same position, a sex offender is on Facebook, and the reason I know as I am the victim/survivor. He was convicted in 1983, before the sex offenders register came into force, I can't find anything on the internet, but I do have documentation evidence a report from Social Services. I have reported him to the police, one week later heard nothing from the police and he is still on there. I am very hurt knowing he is on there. I am thinking of going to local paper, any thoughts on this?
the thick and thin of it is you cant prove it, ceop and the police cannot give out details (even under sarahs law) if the offender can prove that he is not in contact with a child, the police cannot arrest the individual for being on facebook. whilst facebook do not allow R.S.O's, on their site, it is not a criminal offence in the uk to register, as facebook is an american company and american law has no juridstiction in the uk, besides, however if you can prove the person is in contact with a child then the police may decide to give you the details, but you would not be allowed to share this information with anyone as you would be required to sign the offical secrets act, to maintain the safety of everyone involved, also they would not tell you his address, his name if he changed it or indeed the actual offence commited. i know this may not be a lot of help to you but i hope it has clarified the situation for you.
