Dont get it...

Some members of my family have recently turned to religion...out of the blue, I just dont understand why or what makes someone suddenly do the church thing....I also thought religious people were supposed to forgive others....I have found this not to be the case on many occasions throughout my life so far, also found people that are 'believers' to be the most arrogant, selfish, unforgiving people ever....and this really shocks me at times...

They share some of the same weird beliefs rejected by mainstream churches. They are very few in number in the UK and the few that I have known are delightfully charming. They do not knock on doors like the JWs and most seem to be comfortably off financially.

It's almost as if some people are not human, like robots with their emotions and empathy or lack of it....call me blinkered but I was brought up going to church and sunday school etc (C of E) - had no say in the matter, my father was very religious but my mother never went to church, i was also confirmed...(didnt have any say in the matter when you are 11 years old)...strict upbringing etc...I would never dream of making my children go to church ...
Well the Christians were up in arms and made a big noise in the paper about this adaptation into a bench. I must admit, I found it all a little amusing. I went up and had a look at this bench, it was very nice indeed.
I wrote a small piece in the paper in support of my friend and his handy work, I included my name and address, lol. Well, you should have seen all the mail I had, from death threats to violence against my family and all manner of things. I responded appropriately in the paper about these letters by these so Christians. The debate continued until the local Canon stepped in and pleaded for peace.
Some of these Christians are positively evil!!!

A few years ago, one of he local Christian groups erected a huge cross on a hill overlooking Dawlish (My Home Town) it looked awful, covered in fairy lights. Anyway one night it appears some vandals took a saw to it and felled it to the floor.
It was lay on the floor beside a public foot path for months and was covered in barbed wire. It was very unsafe. Well, as it was in a very favourable location on top of the hill and a beautiful view, a friend of mine went to the top of this hill in the middle of the night armed with a few tool and turned this cross into a very nice bench for people to sit on.
