Was this a racist attack?

/// A gang of Muslim girls who repeatedly kicked a young woman in the head walked free from court after a judge heard they were 'not used to being drunk' because of their religion.///
Although these Somalian Muslim thugs screamed 'kill the white ***' and also called her a "white bitch" they were not charged with racial aggravation.
Instead of being sentenced for assault, occasioning actual bodily harm which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, they were allowed by the judge to walk free.
/// They were given suspended sentences after hearing that they were not used to alcohol because their religion does not allow
it. ///
Their victim's sentence:
She was left so traumatised that she lost her job following repeated absences with stress and flashbacks, Seventeen months on from the attack, she is still undergoing counselling and suffers from panic attacks and flashbacks.
What can one say about the justice in this country? Except to say "there seems to be one law for some and another for others".

If 'not being used to alcohol' is a mittigating circumstance in an assault charge, then I - as a teetotaller - should be fine kicking seven bells out of a stranger (ethnicity yet to be decided) after a snowball at the Christmas meal on Friday.

Anyone who groups up and assaults another deserves proper punishment in the court . Intoxication should be only a peripheral factor in determining the severity of the punishment.
The idea that we should show deference and respect for someone elses faith is wrong anyway, in my view, especially in cases such as the one reported here, where it appears the judge afforded far too much deference and respect to the perpetrators alleged religious convictions.

...the notion that the boyfriend used excessive force, is a joke!
i dont think he used enough!... i'd like to think if that were me, my boyfriend would kick the living daylights out of them, same as they were doing to her.
they look like utter scum... to claim they were acting out of character because they were drunk, is crazy... the 4 of them were relentless and would not stop - i dread to think what would have happened had she been alone!

From what I can gather of the story the whole thing is flawed. It was clearly a racial attack because of the use of the word ' white'- had you reversed that and it had been white people saying ' kill the black s7ag' then I assume most of us would have understood it was a racial attack.
Secondly is the Judge's idea that when your fiancee is being attacked by several people unprovokedly that there can be 'unreasonable force'- I'd have personally beaten the fecking bejaysus out of them, and thirdly the idea that being drunk and not used to it is a mitigation- that's why it's not a great idea to get rat a7sed- you do ridiculous things you wouldn't do when you are sober.
Nearly everything was wrong that could be- including the sentence- at the least it should have been a short custodial- and acknowleged as a racially motivated assault- just as it should when the races are reversed.
Racial hatred is not acceptable in any shape or form and this sends out entirely the wrong message to everyone not to mention fuels the fires of people like the EDL who like to think that white English people are being marginalised and mistreated.

the judge did not "pay too much attention to their religion". It was the explanation for their inability to handle alcohol, and it is entirely reasonable to take this into account.
I don't know why it wasn't treated as a racial crime, though.
They did not walk free, however; they have a suspended sentence that can be reactivated.

The other side of the coin, since it is for her own protection, surely it will never be safe to release her, so almost a life sentence for shouting one's mouth off, yet others walk free?????????????
