Sandy, my references to believers 'apparently' being more charitable than atheists was an ironic reference to the many inferences by believers that atheists are for example 'bleak and nihilistic' or only interested in material things, which hardly suggests warm hearted charity.
I take it that you have never been in the unfortunate position of being the recipient of charity, jomifl?

Thanks to a deeply religious 'upbringing', I wasted far too much precious time arguing with myself having been constantly reminded that my mind was the battleground between God and the devil and that reason was the devil's weapon of choice. The implication is that God thrives on irrationality. I'll leave it to you to determine for yourself, between the three of us, who won the war.
