Muslims are offended by images of Muhamed.

They also claim that Jesus was a prophet of Islam. Why are they not offended by images of Jesus?

Thanks Khandro, so he looks like anybody, everybody or nobody. If these images are OK how do they qualify to be so? Why do some images cause such fury? Is it down to which particular sect is a bit touchy. I presume that the genuine 'likenesses' are really artists impressions.
^^ obviously they can't be likenesses, anymore than pictures of Christ or Buddha are accurate representations. //Why do some images cause such fury?// - I've absolutely no idea.
'Fury' appears to be rather a recent innovation, I suspect strongly connected to politics.
This image of The Last Supper shows some churches move with the times...

looks a bit over restored to me...
Doesn't seem much of a supper either. There's not much in the way of food on that table.
I see what he's done there - he's put a man where there's what looks like a woman in the original.
Yes ludwig, that's what I thought but I couldn't remember exactly where jesus's fancy piece was placed in the original.
Standing at his left hand. Some thought it was an image of Mary Magdalen rather than that of St John.
At his right hand, rather. I'd forgotten the image.
I remember seeing a tv programme on which a historian was denying most emphatically that a woman was depicted in the painting. The face shape, small chin and lack of brow ridges is a dead giveaway, I don't know what her name is but a man she ain't.
But if it was a woman, Mary Magdalen, in the picture, where was St John? Could he have been sent to the chip shop for the fish suppers?
There are any number of possibilities Sandy but as I have no wish to offend your religious sensitivities I will leave them to your imagination as you have the option of confession if things get a bit too vivid.
It is only a painting made one and a half centuries after the supposed event and may just have been affected by artistic licence and religious expediency. Don't waste any sleep over it.
1500 hundred years after the event took place, I think.
Sandy I think it is time for me to go to bed, I meant to say one and a half millenia but was thinking of 15 centuries and fell between two decades ;-)
It really is an impoverished representation. Does anyone recall Luis Bunuel's
wonderful film 'Viridiana' ?

jomifl //I just filched these spellings of the prophet's ( not god's messenger of course, that was someone else)name from Wiki, guess the correct one, bearing in mind that none of them resemble the original arabic spelling. //

None resemble the Arabic because Arabic has no vowels. I work in an industry were we have to monitor names of our clients. We have been advised that there are over 600 different ways to spell that name.

Had never noticed before but that person in Da Vinci's last Supper is undoubtedly a woman.

yes, bau a lot of the images of muhammed were just truly rude, like him with a bomb in his hat and holding a gun etc
Quite frankly, I'm offended by anybody who is offended by something they don't like or believe in!
