I would talk them out of it. I wouldn't box their ears or thrash them with a stick!
The chances are that if they were trying to jump off a cliff they would be deeply unhappy.......I don't see quite how physically assaulting them would improve the situation.

And whilst you're at it, do you agree with Keyplus that wife-beating is acceptable? A 'yes' or 'no' will do for that.

Hi Naomi, Keyplus did eventually answer Father Ted's question after a few prods. on 13:44 26th March. He didn't give any reasons or even say which sect of Christianity. I suspect that was because he is pretty ignorant about christianity and doesn't realise that it is not all roman catholicism.(rather strange since he claims to have studied all religions before choosing islam (as if)). I think he would have nominated feminism if he thought he could have got away with it.

Jom, Sith claims to have studied all religions before choosing Islam. Keyplus was born into Islam.

Hi Naomi, I know Sith claims to have studied all religions, but some time ago I challeged Keyplus to explain how it was he just happened to believe in the religion that he was born into and was it that he had no choice in the matter? He replied that he had studied all religions before deciding that islam was best. He failed to see my point which was perhaps a little too subtle ie. that by being born into islam and being brought up in it he couldn't make an unbiased choice. I think my point is proven by his attitude to women, being brought up in a misogynistic society with inflexible beliefs his attitudes to women cannot change, he is a product of his upbringing

Jom, yes, I’ve had that conversation with him too – and I don’t believe for a moment he has studied other religions. If he had, he wouldn’t make so many mistakes. He has been indoctrinated from birth, but he is by no means stupid and therefore, now he lives in a society where practices like wife beating are simply not acceptable, he should have the intelligence to think about it rationally and to understand why it is not acceptable, but sadly it appears he doesn’t. He simply cannot help himself – and he has no intention of trying. He chooses to live in the west, but clings doggedly and irrationally to the antiquated tenets of the east with all the power he can muster. If evidence were required that religion has a detrimental effect on the intellect, then look no further than Keyplus.

Jack – What if you try stopping your loved ones and talk to them then still they do not listen to you would you let them jump. OK, let me answer this question on the basis that it me in your shoes. No I wouldn’t and even if I will have to pull them back physically I will do that and does not matter if someone believe that I am assaulting them. Now let me tell you what “beating” means in that verse. First of all imagine that it was at a time when women were considered disposable. Quran gave a system on how to have a long lasting family system. People asked Prophet (pbuh) about this verse and he said that as you beat someone with a miswaq – meaning twig or a tooth brush. Now you tell me how hard you can beat someone with a tooth brush? So the main objective is trying your best for things to work and a family should not breakup. Because broken families are never good for individuals as well as society. And there are so many verses in Quran and there are so many hadiths that talk about being good to each other. But I am sure those would not make any difference to someone who wants to pick bones. So in the end we come to ground realities and I am sure majority of Muslims understand meanings of those verses and act accordingly and that is the reason more and more women in the West are marrying Muslims and converting to Islam. If you don’t believe me about then ask Naomi about it. After all she is intelligent and knows about it.

Yes, I nominated Christianity as a religion and I believe that is what father Ted was asking. Jomifle he did not ask about sects. Religion to me means religious teachings. Its books. And Bible is full of stuff against women. You all have read Bible compare it with what is against women in Quran and Bible will outweigh Quran by long distance. However if you want me to give long details then I am quite willing to.

Ketplus, as I said you are more ignorant of christianity than I am. Christianity is based on the teachings of christ not on the old testament which is a Jewish text. Some of the more fundamentalist sects use the old testatament as a guide to their behaviour and customs, others do not. Perhaps some of the people who have nominated islam should be more specific as there appears to be a lot of dissent(at times fatal) between the numerous sects of islam. Perhaps you would care to enlighten us as to which you think the most moderate, modern and civilised(apart from your own whatever that is).
