A question for Muslim men: why virgins?

I’m not talking just about the 72 virgins (actually white raisins) promised to suicide bombers as a reward for their murderous atrocities. I gather that ordinary law-abiding Muslim men require their brides to be virgins too and can divorce them on their wedding night if they turn out not to be so.

What is the appeal of the virgin?

It cannot be virginity itself since that soon disappears. I can’t help thinking (and I would be happy to be proved wrong) that it has nothing to do with love or even sex but is a matter of possession. The man insists on knowing that he is the first to ‘possess’ the woman and will not have her if he has already been ‘possessed’ by another man. Is this so? If not, what is it?

(On a frivolous note, give me an experienced woman every time. I go along with Professor Harold Hill, played so brilliantly by Robert Preston in “The Music Man”, who sings:

“I flinch, I shy, when the lass with the delicate air goes by.
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in”.)

But the question itself is meant seriously.

Appreciate I don't fit the criteria for answering but I'd have thought it obvious that a virgin bride implies someone who has not had sufficient interest in someone else but has saved themselves just for her husband and is effectively emotionally bonded just to them (theoretically).

At the risk of causing outrage, a bit like buying new rather than second hand.

If you don't appear in bodily form then no, you can't consumate a marriage. But I could be persuaded to act as proxy if the job's going, and pays well.

If the question was serious then I believe it has been answered by many others. However you expression “where are the Muslim fellows” give me a different perspective. However having said that I will give my own views and then it is up to you whether you take it as my personal views or views of a Muslim.

I will leave 72 virgins or raisins bit as that has nothing to do with the actual question. Islam does not stop or forbid marrying a widow or divorcee; in fact Islam encourages marrying widow or divorcee under certain circumstances. And most of the time widows and divorcees are not virgins therefore it is imperative to believe that there is some sort of pressure or it is compulsory for any reason. However there is a clear difference between someone not being virgin for being married before and/or being a widow, and someone who lost her virginity for having sex here and there aka adultery. Because that shows that this women is of bad character and no one (in his right mind) would like to have mother of his children who used to sleep around.

Does this ban on 'sleeping around' apply to men too - and if so with whom are these women of bad character you're talking about sleeping around with? Furthermore, would any woman (in her right mind) consider such men to be fit fathers to their children?

Are these female virgins bound to acquiesce? What an awful thought. A female suicide bomber having to put up with all those male virgins. Not at all pleasurable. Forgot, women are not allowed to enjoy sex or have more than one partner.
