There seems to be no shortage of end-of-the-world scenarios. Books, movies, and magazines, ranging from the comic to the scientific, portray an assortment of doomsday catastrophes. They include annihilation by nuclear war, asteroid collision, deadly virus, runaway, climate change, or invaders from outer space.

And yet the work that was foretold as part of the composite sign indicating that we are in the last days of this present wicked world.

Jesus described this global work when he enumerated various things that would happen in the time of the end. Included in his prophecy was this meaningful statement: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.”—Matt. 24:14.

There are many prophecies in the Bible that describe perfectly the world today. The problems that have always existed, are now emphasised and are global. They can hardly get bigger!
Global economic meltdown, the imminent fall of Babylon, (the Roman Church / Empire / European Union), and wars centred around Jerusalem etc.

beso -It is not only right but a moral duty to hate wrong. But how can you hate something of which you have no knowledge.
I find it incredibly scary that millions of people base their whole lives on one book.
Equally goodlife, how can you love something you have no knowledge of?
goodlife: You incorrectly presume I have no knowledge of the Bible.

Wrong again, you must not murder.” And under the law of Moses, the penalty for willful murder was death, capital punishment. However, there was a merciful provision for those who accidentally killed a fellow human. (Ex. 20:13)
//And under the law of Moses, the penalty for willful murder was death, capital punishment.//

The law of Moses didn't apply to Moses though, did it. He committed wilful murder.

@Theland - We can go around in circles with this." The bible said this", guys like you, and goodlife will say. The rest of us say no, its just fable and myth. What you see as prophecy could be entirely due to a reinterpretation of narrative verse from the bible, shaped and moulded by the modern day religious to better fit contemporaneous event.

This is exactly what happens when people offer up "amazing" interpretations of the Nostradamus quatrains, with some of the "scholars" offering selective misquotations from the original french.

So no, not coincidence - irrelevance.

How about this? Offer us what you consider to be the bibles 3 strongest, most likely prophecies. Offer them up, quote their chapter and verse, and then offer what you consider to be the most authoratative quotation.

Might offer an interesting exercise. And remember, if you offer biblical verse, source it so it can be independantly checked, and if you offer prophetical interpretation, source it so we can check for bias etc.
Theland //There are many prophecies in the Bible that describe perfectly the world today.//

//Global economic meltdown//
The economic cycles of the world have come and gone since trade was invented. The current dip is nothing exceptional compared to 1890s and 1930s.

//imminent fall of Babylon, (the Roman Church / Empire / European Union)//

That is drawing a long bow indeed. Babylon actually fell apart in the seventh century when Islamic Arabs invaded the area.

Unperturbed the faithful rejigged the reference to Babylon as symbolic of the Roman Empire. This empire had completely disintegrated even in its rudimentary form by the fifteenth century.

Six centuries later it is now supposedly symbolic of the collapse of the European Union.

//wars centred around Jerusalem etc. //

Many wars have been centered around Jerusalem for many centuries mainly because the most ardent followers of the ridiculous Abrahamic religions live there and believe the guff written in their Holy books.

They relish the idea promoted in those "prophecies" about how the final battle will be fought there and want to see it in their lifetime. Abrahamists have all been convinced of the "imminent arrival" of the "time of judgement" right from the time the Bible was written when the claim was that it would be in the lifetime of the apostles.

Religious devotees are determined to fulfill this "prophecy" and represent the greatest challenge in the history of civilisation. They want conflict because bigoted tribal jingoistic conflict glorified in blood is the very foundation of their doctrine.

We desperately need to get religious dogma out of the decision making loop if we are to have any hope of keeping pace with the moral, ecological and sociological challenges facing us. Our future depends on it and some parts of the world have a very long journey ahead of them.

//Too much to be mere coincidence.//

Those who express this kind of gullibility demonstrate the extent of the problem.

As the Bible of little importance because it is impractical, and a joke what about the politicians that are oftentimes more the pawns of gamblers than servants of the people? How practical is economic system, that allows a few ultrarich to loll in the lap of luxury while millions exist in anxiety over obtaining the bare necessities of life? How practical is her rising tide of crime, the growing immorality, the soaring divorce rate, the mushrooming juvenile delinquency, problem drinkers seeking escape, and even common gluttony, all of which courses of conduct bring down upon us a flood of physical and mental ailments, venereal diseases, broken homes, illegitimate children, overcrowded jails, human heartache and untimely death? Please tell just what is any hope of keeping pace with the moral, ecological and sociological challenges facing you.
