What Is the Future of Religion?
73 Answers
The resurgence of religion has been dramatic in the countries of the former Soviet Union. In Russia alone, 50 percent of the population now declare themselves to be Orthodox, and millions are adherents of other religions. Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism are among the long-established ones,

Goodlife, //Naomi@ Jesus was not saying that we should act as if our problem did not exist. However, worrying about what might happen tomorrow will only add to the emotional load of today. Frankly, you have little power over what may develop tomorrow, good or bad. But we can take measures to deal with the present.//
I’m not worrying about what might happen tomorrow – I take life as it comes - but you are obsessed with it – and if it means the destruction of mankind (well, the non-believers anyway) you are relishing the prospect. Don’t preach to others Goodlife – acknowledge the mote in your own eye.

As your watch ticks off 60 seconds, more than 30 people die from infectious diseases, 11 lose the battle against cancer, and 9 are cut down by heart disease. And you know that those are just some of the diseases afflicting people; many suffer and die from other causes.
A big word is Why?
Why does the Creator not stop it? What is the cause, and is the Creator concerned about it?
Or are you one who blames God for wars, the suffering, the famine.

@Goodlife - and for every life lost, many more are born into the world. And many of the deaths in the world are carried out by fanatics who espouse a belief in one particular version of a delusion.
Only if you believe in the idea that man should be immortal does your question have any relevance.
Biology, genetics and evolution tell us why we die. No need to invoke a supernatural entity.

No human witnessed the beginning of life on earth. Nor has anyone seen one kind of life evolve into another kind—a reptile into a mammal, for example. Therefore, we must rely on the available evidence to draw conclusions about the origin of life. And we need to let the evidence speak for itself rather than say what we want it to say, and man is not immortal.
@goodlife your standard of evidence that you suppose is required to prove the theory of evolution is ludicrous and demonstrates very clearly your utter lack of understanding of evolutionary biology.
And, despite your claims to the contrary, we have seen evolution in action. Examples are found in plants, microbes and insects.
Only the dullards, those completely lacking in any kind of scientific knowledge, will attempt to assert that something is untrue or unproven unless the first cause was observed, or because we have never had a crocoduck or any other such absurdity.
Get some education in basic biology and read about evolutionary theory before you start parroting such stupidity.
And has been pointed out by others- before you start making demands for evidence, look to your own position. There is no empirical evidence to support any of your beliefs in a god - only the human, fallible interpretation s of a book of myth....

Really, of what benefit is it when man can travel to the moon but cannot solve the basic problems of the human family? Did the invention of increasingly destructive weapons, such as the atom bomb, bring an end to wars and ethnic violence? Have the accomplishments of science significantly diminished crime, family breakup, sexually transmitted diseases, immorality, illegitimate births, corruption in high places, poverty, hunger, homelessness, drug abuse, pollution? No, science has, if anything, made some of these things worse. Abandoning God and substituting evolution and science, the human family has not helped its situation but has hurt it
More evidence free assertions offered by goodlife.
The bible and worship of a mythical being will do nothing to cure ills, end wars, prevent ethnic violence. Quite the contrary, religion is the cause of much of that cultural division and bloodshed.
Merely listing the problems facing humanity and then blithely asserting that "science cannot fix it" is just plain stupid. Application of our knowledge, political will and agreements, better use of resources, greater education, family planning and contraception, water filtration units, vaccines, medicines, - all of these are concrete and useful measures to aid in the combat of all of those ills you mention. Waving the bible and indulging in speaking with a voice inside your head will do nothing.
Your blatherings are illogical. They are ludicrous and desperate observations, lacking any sort of intellectual rigour or substance. No wonder you ignore argument and criticism and prefer to spout cut and paste homilies straight from the Watchtower archives.
Once you leave that behind, all cogency and coherence falls away as well. You preach disaster and destruction, and revel in the prospect of catastrophe for humanity. You worship death, and your god is a zombie - dead and irrelevant, but doesn't realise it.
