Goodlife, //She also wondered why humans, who were supposed to be an evolutionary improvement over monkeys, suffered from emotional problems that did not afflict monkeys.//
Monkeys aren't brainwashed with religion, or made to feel guilty for sins not committed, or told they're wicked and hence doomed. Maybe that's the answer.

//Of course creation took considerably longer than 7000 years. We know that! There is no actual time period mentioned in the Genesis account. //
// Yes there is – 6 days//
I know it mentions 6 days! I was referring here to the fact that creation took longer than 7000 years and that no actual time period is mentioned. One creative day could be as long as 1000 years. Not a 24 hour day as we know it. The word “day” in the Bible is used with several different meanings, even as it has a variety of applications in modern times.
This is where understanding and discernment come into play. Reading the context plays a part here.

…. conveniently. Once again, the supposedly infallible bible doesn’t mean what it says – and before you jump to the New Testament to ‘prove’ your point, the author of that bit knew no more than anyone else, including you, about a perceived creator. You can’t have it both ways. Either the book is right or it’s not. Actually, I don’t know why you don’t believe it was all done in 6 days. Is your God not capable of that – or has the undeniable evidence for evolution cast doubt in your mind?

Naomi Let us see why. First is knowledge. It comes from God.
In the garden of Eden, the original home of mankind, God planted among other trees “the tree of the knowledge of good and bad.” From this tree God commanded the first man Adam not to eat if he wanted to avoid dying. (Gen. 2:9, 15-17) The book of Proverbs, as well as all the rest of the Bible, impressively shows us that Almighty God Jehovah was well able to give Adam the knowledge of good and bad in God’s own time without Adam’s having to disobey God and eat from the forbidden tree of the knowledge of good and bad.
In disobeying God Adam fell away from his Creator and so missed out on knowledge, for, as( Proverbs 1:7) says.The same with you.
Again is a verse that even a child can understand.
