Are You A Good Person?
264 Answers
If there is a Heaven, do you think you are good enough to go there? To answer this question, try taking this test to see if you are a good person: (I know that I'm not.)
1. Have you ever told a lie?("white" lies are still lies.) What do you call someone who tells lies and are you one?
2. Have you ever stolen anything? (Even when you were a kid.) What do you call someone who steals and are you one?
3. Have you ever looked someone with lust? Jesus said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5:28)
4. Have you ever you used God's name to curse? That's called blasphemy. "The Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name." (Exodus 20:7)
This is only four of the ten commandments. So IF God were to judge you based on the ten commandments, would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? If you have failed any or all of these commandments, than you are not a good person by God's standard.
Now the common response is: "Okay, so I'm not perfect." or "I haven't killed anybody."
But remember the standard is God's perfect law, not other people. God only considers good to be moral perfection! Which none of us are and therefore the whole world is guilty before him!
*The Bad News: We all have sinned (violated God's law: such as lying, stealing, and so on.) and fall short to the glory of God (Romans 3:23). God can not tolerate sin and will punish for it because of his holiness and justice (Isaiah 13:11). Which means that there is no one who is good, but God alone, and the wages of sin is death(Hell). (Romans 3:10-18, Romans 6:23)
Don't worry there is hope!
*The Good News: The good news is that God loved us so much that he sent his son to take the punishment for our sins, so who that whoever believes in him should not go to hell but have everlasting life (John 3:16, with emphasis). All you need to is repent from your sins and place your faith in Jesus Christ. The moment you do that you will be forgiven from your sins and know and will be granted everlasting life into heaven. (Romans 10:13)
Now, the final question is: Will you place your faith/trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and repent from your sins today and accept the free gift of eternal life?

Naomi@//Several people here know the bible – and more importantly its dubious history - equally as well, if not better, than your teachers.//
I don't think so! They may think they do but they do not have the correct understanding.
As an example of an authoritative-sounding statement a Bible critic, said that the book of Daniel, considered to have been written by Daniel himself in Babylon in the sixth century B.C.E. was written much later than that. Why? One “proof” offered was because the book contains Greek words, and the critic asserted that these words could not have been used in the Book of Daniel unless it had been written after the dissemination of Greek influences in Asia through the conquests of Alexander the Great. Alexander made his conquests about 330 B.C.E.
However he mentions only three Greek words, these being names of musical instruments. (Daniel 3:5) Since the Greeks had close contact with western Asia from early in recorded history, how can anyone assume that musical instruments with Greek names were not used in Babylon in the sixth century B.C.E.? What a flimsy basis for querying the timing and writership of the book of Daniel!
Take miracles - many suppose that miracles could not have happened, because they lie outside the range of known laws of nature. Similarly, long-term prophecies must be impossible, since humans cannot see far into the future. Therefore any miracle must be a legend or a myth and any prophecy that was clearly fulfilled must have been written after its fulfillment. Many Bible students realize that this theory is wrong, since the Greek Scriptures, written in the first century C.E., record the fulfillment of many prophecies of the Hebrew Scriptures, which were written centuries earlier. For example, the first-century fulfillment of all the details of Daniel 9:24-27 are recorded by secular historians.
Hence, some argue that the prophecies of the book of Daniel were fulfilled by the second century B.C.E. and that the book must therefore have been written then.

Evan, Truthabounds says //They may think they do [know the bible] but they do not have the correct understanding. //
So now we have three of you - you, Keyplus, and Truthabounds, all laying claim to the one true religion - and all believing very differently. See what I mean? Curiouser and curiouser!

/////See Evan - another unverifiable statement/////
There are so many things in the life that cannot be verified, and that is the reason they should be left until they could be verified. Otherwise no one is stopping anyone from keep on arguing about something that cannot be proved, at least not yet.

@keyplus90: I am not trying to find out who is a good person, which according to the Bible, there is no good person. (Mark 10:18, ESV) "And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone." I just want others to read about the Gospel. (Romans 1:16, ESV) "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
@Naomi24: "- but this time from someone who believes very differently to you- "
It is very obvious people have different opinions on some subjects... Not all people have the same opinions/beliefs on the same subject(s).

Evan, I think you misunderstand. I'm not talking about 'opinions' - I'm talking about 'faith'. Keyplus is Muslim, Truthabounds is a Jehovah's Witness, and you, it appears, are entralled by the ramblings of millionaire Christian evangelical preacher Ray Comfort - although I'm happy to be corrected on that one if I'm wrong. Each of you is just as passionate as the next man in your individual belief - which is very different from that of the other two - and each of you come here bombarding us with text from your holy (and not so holy) writings in an effort to persuade the rest of us that you, personally, are right – which means you want us to believe that the other two are wrong.
Can none of you see the utter stupidity in that – or the futility - and do none of you really understand why rational, free-thinking people, whose minds are not corrupted by religion, don’t – and can’t - take any of you seriously?
Love is the most important thing is this world - but that's something that none of you who are obsessed with saving your own sorry souls will ever understand. As one of those damned atheists, as human beings, I find you all incredibly sad.

@goodlife - Finally, something we can agree on! Its certainly true that faith is not a possession of all people.
I think that is a good thing. The numbers of people without faith is increasing, the numbers of churchgoers and people of faith is decreasing, at least in this part of the globe. That is a very good thing indeed - society will be all the better for it.

//Yes the truth of the matter is, true faith is not a possession of all people. //
Ahh, and here we have contestant number four's entry – although the odds are a bit lopsided now because Goodlife is also a Jehovah’s Witness, so we have two of those supporting that particular flavour of religion. Although doubtless spoken with great conviction, Goodlife’s statement cannot, of course, be verified in any way, shape, or form. Nevertheless, it’s a useful addition because it indicates that, in his opinion, both Keyplus and Evan are most definitely completely wrong.
Any more contenders? Mormons? Anglicans? Catholics? Jews? Anyone? Roll up, roll up!!
Sorry James, welcome to R&S, but I don't think you've put forward a strong enough case for this competition.
