Why Convert To Rc ?

I watched the exposé of the Vatican last night .Silence in the House of God,
which was shocking in the extreme but afterwards, I thought why have over 1000 parishioners and 60 Anglican clerics joined the RC Church in the past two years.

If you asked these same people . Would you join an organisation that supports and protects paedophiles ? We know what their answer would be be but that is precisely what they are doing.

In my experience, people convert to Roman Catholicism for lofty intellectual reasons that completely evade people born into it.

I have no idea why anyone would modeller, I have never understood the pull of the catholic church, since long before all the child abuse scandals. The RC church have been abusing many, many people for generations.

To those people it is not about where they are going, particularly, but more at what they are leaving. These are people who do not want to see their church 'overrun' with gay vicars and women bishops and would rather join a more conservative establishment that rejects all those things, and harbours perverts.

Thats unfair modeller. The RC church protects its reputation by moving on priests incompatible to a parish. Its up to the law to prosecute paedos wherever they are, blame the local constabulary.

I can understand why people may want to leave an organisation but why join one of such disrepute. Wasn't it Danté who described the Vatican as
" The sewer corruption" . Nothing seems to have changed.

tamborine I assume you didn't watch the programme ? The church moved hundreds of these paedophiles around over a period of 20/30 years and even sent them back to the boarding schools where they commited further offences. Most of the time the police were never informed and in the odd occasion they were, they believed the clerics. Even nuns covered up for the priests. Pope Benedict had a list of all these priests and took no action.

No, I didnt see the program but all my schooling/boarder was in 4 convents. I never had paedo experience. My over protective dad would definitely have had such a priest prosecuted.

Punishment is not up to the police/law in the eyes of the catholic church, they think it's enough to send the abusers off somewhere nice to pray and be penitent.
