...famously said: 'Gott ist tot'. Will we become as Gods?

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

Pixie, I can't speak for Goodlife, but they're not fools. Misguided are many of the Goodly unGodly, but not fools.
Unguided, maybe, sandy? I was guided into believing in God. It was my own reasoning that prevented me. Thanks though. Would be interested to see what (and if!) Goodlife replies, as that seems to be his opinion. Will wait for a yes or no ;-)
Pixie, don't wait too long for goodlife to answer, he rarely does. When the questions get too hard he says "that's all I'll say on the matter" or similar and leave the thread.
I know what you mean, Vulcan. Goodlife posted an opinion and i would just like a yes or no as to whether he believes what he's written. I'm sure he will soon reply with a straightforward answer. And no cut-and-pasting. Will patiently wait.
Ah well. Maybe you were right, Vulcan.
Im saying the word “fool,” as used in the Bible, generally refers to an individual who spurns reason and follows a morally insensible course out of harmony with God’s righteous standards.

So much like persons who refuse to acknowledge the authority of a court. The court exists. But they ignore its jurisdiction over them. Therefore, to say “I believe that God exists” has real meaning only if one accepts God’s Word, his authority in one’s life.
You have offered nothing to support the notion of a god, of any authority at all ,goodlife. Just your faith, your belief. Not enough to suggest we should submit ourselves to this authority, outlined in the bible or koran or whatever other flavour of holy book. Worse, you are content to invest that authority into priests or rabbis, or imams or elders, and their "interpretation" of scripture.

And we have seen the consequence of that "interpretation". Uniquely, the JWs refuse blood transfusion for life threatening medical events, citing biblical scripture -unyet no other branch of the mainstream religions believes the same thing.

And preachers, elders, rabbis, vicars, priests, imams all do other distasteful even downright criminal actions cloaking themselves with the veneer of respectability of being a respected authority figure; Disfellowshipping. Calling Fatwahs.Abusing kids.Greed.

No, we need no man-made myth to be the arbiter.Tell me again - who is the more foolish?
Rather a lot of assumptions here Sandy. Strangely when they are removed it seems that Nietzche said s0d all, as ever....
Goodlife, you are hardly qualified to talk about 'reason'. There is nothing 'reasonable' in placing store by something for which there is no evidence. That is illogical.
GL, congrats on attempting an argument, was it your own or did you happen to find it somewhere?
Hmmm. You didn't quite answer, goodlife. Do you personally stand by your quote?
@goodlife

//Only fools think there is no God.
People like that are evil and do terrible things.
They never do what is right. //

That's some sales pitch you've got there. You're telling people... or, let's be specific, you're telling ME that
i) I am a fool.
- Hey, thanks. I really appreciate you insulting me.
ii) I am evil and do terrible things
- please specify the symptoms of evil I display and/or the terrible things I have done.
(but please note: I am a stranger to karaoke bars and also try to get out of earshot of other people before breaking wind)

:-D
And don't forget, hypnogsis, you NEVER do anything right. The same obviously applies to me, which is why I'm just asking goodlife to confirm he really does mean that.
I hope you get your answer, sometime soon, pixie.

In the meantime, what flabberghasts me is that preachers of ALL types fail to see this most basic thing about themselves: - that their entire premise is to tell everyone that their lack of faith, or faith in some other god(s), is wrong, that they are right and they expect people to be grateful for this news and receptive to anything else they have to say. :-O

Conspiracy theorists also tend to kick off with something along the lines of "you're all so blind that you can't see the truth". So I tend to lump them all into the same category...

I think that mirrors don't exist in the wonderful world of JW
Pixie, Goodlife will stand by his quote because none of his ideas emanate from his own head. They are someone else’s thoughts.

There is nothing new under the sun, and that includes thoughts.
^^That's not entirely true. Wish I'd have thought of Harry Potter!

Right now I can't think of any of his antecedents but I'd bet there were boy wizards before Harry Potter.
There was Billy Bunter - stayed in a boarding school, had adventures, and could make food disappear in a flash :)
