I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts on what heaven will be like when you get there.
I have asked many people this question and have received many different answers but the one thing I've noticed is that all the answers are vague to say the least.
The bible has very little to say on the subject which surprises me because I assume that it is the ultimate reward for your lifetime of service to your creator.
What do you think?

I was brought up a Catholic in the 1950's and I can remember a Nun at my school telling me that Heaven was a place where you could do whatever you best liked doing. She asked me what my favourite food was and I told that my Mum's Apple Pie was really delicious, especially if it came with custard.

Well, she said, you can eat Apple Pie with Custard all day, every day when you go to Heaven. Ever since, whenever I smell Apple Pie being cooked I have a vision of the pearly gates, with St Peter holding a large pie. and a jug of custard.

Of course, I am not a believer any more these days but Apple Pie would seem to be as good a reason to get 8 year old boys to behave themselves as any other method.
Im interested to know how the people who say "it doesnt exist" know?

personally I dont know whether an afterlife exists or not, Im am however prepared to be open minded about the situation.
I see it as a huge empty space with nothing in it that doesn't exist yet. The ideal place for all those non-existant souls to go and not exist.
Did you not read God said nothing to Adam about going to heaven. So the earth was not to be a proving ground where people would be tested to see if they were fit for heaven.

Man was created to live forever on earth, And that is God purpose, and will yet to be fulfilled.

The Bible promises that “the righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.” (Psalm 37:29)

Yet some people think that it is impossible to know about heaven because no one has ever come down from there to tell us about it.

Perhaps you have forgotten that Jesus did. (John 8:23)
GL, are you not aware that the sun will one day become a 'red giant' and the Earth will cease to exist other than as atoms scattered in space. What does your bible have to say about that?

Birdie - Thanks for the link.
It's puzzling to me why theists don't have more curiosity about the supposed benefits of an eternal afterlife. It seems that you can't reconcile free will with paradise.
You end up as a mindless zombie with no memory of your life on earth so no regrets about loved ones going to hell.
It sort of takes the shine off a lifetimes effort to be moral and good and worship your creator if you are stripped of all the traits and memories that makes you who you are.
One of the biggest selling points of heaven has been the "You will meet all your departed loved ones" theme.
Not much point if you don't even remember them.
What about meeting people you didn't like on earth?
Wasn't the rainbow placed in the sky as a sign that God would never again punish sinful mankind with inundation? Fire, in the form of an expanding Sun, seems a likely alternative.

Sandy - I think we'll be long gone before that happens,
GL What about the 144,000 "anointed" who would be transferred at death to live in heaven to rule over earth with Christ. The rest of the "saved" will have to make do with the Earth brought back to paradise and live for eternity praising the Lord, Jehovah.
Have the 144,000 already been selected or does anyone have a chance?
Who can say? I believe there'll be a large corner filled with crowds of the goodly unGodly saying things like, 'Who'd have thought it?', and, 'This can't be Heaven, where are we?'.
@Sandy "Who can say? I believe there'll be a large corner filled with crowds of the goodly unGodly saying things like, 'Who'd have thought it?', and, 'This can't be Heaven, where are we?'."

I have to admit, that does conjure up a funny vision :)
cazzz1975...I don't believe heaven exists because I have been born with a brain that is capable of rational thought and that can distinguish between the plausible and the impossible.
A committee of 144,000? still plenty of time to make decisions possibly an eternity.
"...You will meet all your departed loved ones..."

I can vouch for that, having been at the entrance of the tunnel & seen deceased rellies awaiting me.
im not sure what it will be like,,,,,,,,,,,,but as so many people want to go there, it cant be bad :)

Anne - I think that's the point. Why do so many people want to go there when they don't know what to expect?
-- answer removed --
Reminds me of an old joke.
St. Peter showing round a new arrival, "Over here are the Jews, and across there are the Hindus. In the corner, over there, are the Mormons, and across there, the Muslims".
New arrival, "And what's behind that 100 foot wall, over there?"
St. Peter, "Ahh. There are the Jehovah's Witnesses. They think they're the only ones up here".
Isn't there a couple of quite detailed descriptions of heaven in the book of revelation?

Heaven as a (rather nightmarish) choir of kings who eternally sing about the glory of god in the presence of giant creatures made out of eyes:

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation%204:1-5:14&version=NIV

The second, as a city made out of gold and precious stones where god lives among his people

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation%2021:1-22:15&version=NIV

"The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.[f] 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass."
