Not a question, just a link to an article.

You may have heard of this book and this guy - Eben Alexander. Wrote a book called "proof of heaven" which became a bestseller in the US and is apparently being made a film. Caught the public imagination because of the scientific authority imparted to the book by the fact that the author was a "famed neurosurgeon", and, according to him, he was by his own diagnosis "brain dead" through acute bacterial meningitis resulting in a coma.

Some of the details and story sounded odd to me at the time, so I was interested in reading the following article in the Esquire. It was the first paragraph of the story in particular I found particularly stomach -churning, him appearing on Fox News immediately following news of the Newtown Massacre, responding confidently to a tearful question from the interviewer about the experience of the kids killed.

Less a Prophet, more a Profit, I think.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eben_Alexander_(author) Alexander said “Esquire's cynical article distorts the facts of my 25-year career as a neurosurgeon and is a textbook example of how unsupported assertions and cherry-picked information can be assembled at the expense of the truth." Oh, the irony! Interesting to note that as of July 3, 2013,...

@Gina
"Your Country is experiencing debauchery as well...no place has exclusion to extremist...including your picturesque "England" being taken Over by Radical Islam! Know. you fine well-breed English have "No Problem with Sharia's Law!" You Deserve the Very Best Islam has too offer. Then again, Only in England! Typing with one hand...due to my right hand is broken and in cast"

Are you on painkillers, Gina? Because that might explain the increasing levels of paranoia exhibited in your posts.

Can you explain the following?

".including your picturesque "England" being taken Over by Radical Islam!"

- Apart from being factually wrong - what does this have to do with my original post, with Eben Alexander, and with his book "Proof of Heaven"?

"you fine well-breed English have "No Problem with Sharia's Law!"

- Actually, I think you will find most of the British population have a problem with Sharia Law.

"You Deserve the Very Best Islam has too offer. Then again, Only in England!"

- Why thank you. Are all these - insults, I guess- being thrown about by you because someone was a tiny bit sarcastic about the US earlier? Why yes, I think they are, because you have offered nothing substantive to the actual conversation.

You appear to be one of the worst forms of christian - thin-skinned, totally committed to your particular version of reality,a world where everyone is on the brink of war with everyone else, Islam is about to form a caliphate in europe, and family stories, recounted after 30 years, constitutes proof.
At the slightest challenge to such worldviews, you fly off the handle, spam the thread, and offer insult - How very, very - christian - of you.

Once again, and for the record - How have your last few posts, written with only one hand - one can only imagine the garbage we might have had to wade through had both hands been available to you - How have they contributed, at all, to the conversation about my original post, the one about Eben Alexander, and his book, "Proof of Heaven"?

Where have all Gina's posts gone? I feel like I missed all the good bits :(
They were pretty dull....
This is quite good, many of my prejudices are being confirmed, more please Gina,
This all reminds me of the fact that many epileptics have religious hallucinations. Christians see and hear Jesus, Hindus see and hear Vishnu
and his Avatars, Buddhists hear Buddha etc ..... . I recently told a vicar that St. Paul was believed to have had a seizure on the road to Damascus.
The vicar nearly had a fit himself . I pointed out that in Ireland they call epilepsy St Paul's disease.
It has been found temporal lobe activity is much higher in theists than in atheists. This activity can be artificially induced by drugs which is why many druggies are highly spiritual.
Going in and out of a coma could explain Dr Alex's illusions.
Many of our great artists and composers were believed to have been epilectic.

Here are a few sites which are worth reading. It would appear the Damascus event wasn’t an isolated occurrence.
