Not petty, at all. I've long been of the opinion that God has an impish humour.
It's been said that there are none so blind as those who will not see. The evidence is there but some try to explain it away as coincidence.

I don't see how you can possibly say that a tall building, indeed the tallest building in the immediate area, struck by lightning on a day of generally bad weather, is anything other than a coincidence. The fact that someone who was unpopular with some people (and why, anyway, should that mean unpopular with God, whose mind we do not know and would surely have been able to direct His wrath at the person and not the building?) is neither here nor there.

Correlation does not imply causation. Once again, we see here nothing more than the human need to find a pattern where there is none.

If you ever find yourself in that unhappy position you could try and run that as a defence. I think it would help reduce the length of the eventual sentence if you were found 'guilty but insane'.
