Others say it is because he has already arrived, and laid down the cross.
Would appreciate other replies.
Some even say it's nothing more than a fashion statement.

I think someone found it more convenient to wear it that way instead of it dangling down and had to justify it by making up reasons, he's arrived, it' him carrying the cross blah blah.
