Is it possible to believe in god without being religious? Or is that a paradoxical statement?

You can believe in a higher being without attending formal religious services, if that's what you mean?

It might depend on how strong your belief is. If it's what you might call low-key, just quietly believing is good enough. But if you have a strong belief, you might like to show it by attending a place of worship.

You could have a 'strong belief' that your child should go to a school of choice though you may have to attend church to stand a better chance (even as a non-believer in God).

Being religious implies allegiance or at least having belief in an establish religion. You may hold spiritual beliefs including a belief in a deity, without being part of any existing religion.

Conversely, its possible to believe in religion without believing in God, Like Buddhism (or non-theistic satanism, but thats another story) I think it also depends on how you define 'religious'.
My view is that man is religious by nature. Those that dont believe in God will still celebrate christmas or buy easter eggs for their kids (I know they arnt originally christian festivals). But mankind has a need for ritual, whether you see it as religious or not is neither here nor there, its still ritual.
In the courts we still have the 'ritual' of swearing on oath and judges and barristers wearing horse hair on their heads.
We have certain days set aside for certain celebrations, eg. Bonfire night, halloween, valentines day etc.
People 'religiously' (or ritually) watch every episode of the x factor or Eastenders.
My point been that you can believe in God but we cant help BUT been religious.

Of course it is possible to believe in a god without being religious. Belief in a god probably preceded religion. Religions only came afterwards to exploit that belief.

It’s possible to believe that ‘something’ created the universe, but that the ‘something’ doesn’t take a personal interest in human beings, so it’s possible to believe in a creator without feeling an obligation to worship it.
