and he appeared in today's world, what would he make of today's Christians, their big elaborate churches and cathedrals, the pope and the Vatican and all their wealth etc...

I would imagine he would probably collapse in tears!

Goodlife, if you need spiritual fear to prevent you from compromising basic human principles of right and wrong, I feel very sorry for you.

Jesus on the picket line with miners?

Is this the Monty Python thread?
Support the Labour party...not support the Tory party

was Jesus British?
Zacs, LOL

I can picture the scene as Jesus turns to Scargill and says 'pass me yer megaphone!'
agchristie....get it right ! Its "pass me thy megaphone"
People adorn their loves with gold & diamonds. Rank is adorned with jewelled crowns, palaces etc. Same with all faith followers. Jesus would do a Gordon Brown & flog the gold.

Mathew 18.20 'For where 2 or 3 are gathered in my name I am there in the midst.'
Mikes, please don't misrepresent me. I didn't say Jesus would advocate a vote for Labour - I said that since he didn't work for a living but depended on handouts from other people to survive he would probably vote Labour.
Sorry, Mikey, not Mikes.
There's nothing wrong with mendicancy. It allows people to do charitable deeds.
Sorry naomis...must have misunderstood your post the other day.

But do prophets normally "work for a living" ?
If the founder of Islam, the Arabian prophet Muhammad, was a real person, what sound reason do you have to believe that Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, was not?

He may have lived some 600 years before Muhammad, but note that the founder of Buddhism, Siddhārtha Gautama—the Buddha, or “Enlightened One”—lived even earlier, over 500 years before Jesus. Yet, if the Buddha was a real person, what sound reason do we have to believe that Jesus was not?
I am pretty sure that L. Ron Hubbard existed too.
Goodlife, //what sound reason do we have to believe that Jesus was not?//

Mohammed was a fully-fledged human being, as was Buddha, but Jehovah's Witnesses claim Jesus to have been the supernatural Archangel Michael and others claim him to have been the supernatural creator God incarnate. Spot the difference?

Therefore, rationally, since there is no evidence for the existence of supernatural beings, there is no reason (sound or otherwise) to believe that the divine version of Jesus existed at all.

//Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity//

Jesus didn't found Christianity. Paul did.
Naomi What happened to Peter ?
He might just be a little bit cross about Israel and Gaza?
^ might he tear them off a strip?
He would possible wish you had the gift of faith to believe in him.
Amen say I
agchristie -LOL,good one
Would Jesus listen to congregations as they try to explain that they like comfortable places in which to worship ? That they don’t like to borrow or rent suitable rooms a few times a week to “gather together in his name“ and take collections for housing the homeless, rather than for the upkeep of buildings and bureaucracy, officials and officialdom ?
Let’s guess what Jesus’ priorities would be these days.
Go on – guess.
Widows, orphans, the poor, the sick, the blind, the lame . . . . .
or
cushioned pews, with coffee in the vestry afterwards ?

There is no independent corroborating evidence for either of them.
