Today all earthly governments are facing destruction even at their own hands by highly developed scientific means of warfare. Well-informed commentators on world affairs are themselves warning all of us of the threatening eventuality.

I was actually referring to Sandy's view that ISIS had "strayed" from Koranic teachings in persecuting Christians, whereas there is nothing, I repeat - NOTHING, that ISIS has done for which they cannot find explicit, I repeat - EXPLICIT, justification in the Koran. There's a genuine irony in your selection of Sura 5. It contains the frequently quoted verses of "peace" and "tolerance" which state that killing one man njustly is "as if one killed the whole of mankind". Unfortunately the immediately following :verses say exactly what should happen to those who "make war on on God OR against his Messenger, and roam the earth corrupting it": "it is that they be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet amputated alternately, or be exiled from the land". Verses 32-34. You must ask your wife what she makes of this Sura. (.I'd love Sandy to read it, too; he's not read a word of the holy book I suggest). As far as I can see there is nothing ISIS is doing IN ITSELF (I include rape in this) which is unIslamic or forbidden by the Koran: their action are unIslamic ONLY inasmuch as the Christians, Yazhidi and Shia victims do not meet the definition of "people making war on the Messenger" and "causing corruption in the earth".

I have had some good laughs reading this thread. Why so many of you think that GL is contradictory is beyond me. I have checked and double checked what he writes, not just with his bible, but also with other translations. To my mind whatever translation you use, the interpretations are the same, albeit put in different ways.
With regard to the blood issue which would appear to be the most popular reason for objections to the Jehovahs witness - having worked in a hospital and seen the results of people having had them, - maybe it saved their lives, but having spoken to relatives of some of these patients, they claim that after having had blood they seem to have had a personality change! Elderly ones given blood may seem to revive for a few weeks, but invariably they still die!
when Jesus spoke about the wine - he did not say it was his blood - he said that it represented his blood. There is a difference. For example, take the words at John 6 v 53
"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."
Jesus was not saying we should literally eat and drink his flesh & blood.
The flesh and blood of the Son of man, denote the Redeemer in the nature of man; Christ and him crucified, and the redemption wrought out by him, with all the precious benefits of redemption; pardon of sin, acceptance with God, the way to the throne of grace, the promises of the covenant, and eternal life. These are called the flesh and blood of Christ, because they are purchased by the breaking his body, and the shedding of his blood. Also, because they are meat and drink to our souls. Eating this flesh and drinking this blood mean believing in Christ. We partake of Christ and his benefits by faith.
Elsewhere in the Bible you will see that God forbids the eating of blood ie to Noah after he leaves the ark. He is told he can eat meat, but not the blood because life is in the blood and life belongs to God.
See also Leviticus 17 v 11. For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Hence the sacrifice of Jesus - his blood was given for an atonement for us.

SirOracle - //Andy- Hughes If you were considering becoming a Christian then please don't pay any attention to Goodlife /locusts,as the strange sect that they promulgate are NOT Christian. //
Thank you - but I wasn't anyway.
My absence of belief is total, as is my irritation at the smugness and condescending attitude of people like Goodlife who think that they are the only true believers, and everyone else is damned.
I put my trousers on one leg at a time, the same as Goodlife - what gives him the colossal arrogance he continually exhbits to lecture me about faith, as though he must be right, and I must be wrong?

idiosyncrasy - old people do die and if a blood transfusion extended their life by some time then why is this not beneficial.
As for your experience on reports that some patients change their personality after a blood transfusion.... that statement doesn't really do much to endorse the rest of your post.

naaomi24//the ungodly ..... will face eternal hellfire. // Not according to Goodlife. Rather than having to spend eternity with Jehovah's Witnesses, we're just going to die. Sounds alright to me.
As my father was an old soldier and Was in the second world war,I always remember what he said to me when they were in the foxholes under extreme circumstances there were no atheist in the foxholes at that time they were all pray and to come out of live in.so you think you will not be terrified when there will be a great Tribulation on this earth similar to be into foxhole in his second world war.
Lexham English 6 .14. 17
14 And the sky was split apart like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved from their place.15 And the kings of the earth, and the most important people, and the military leaders, and the rich, and the powerful, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16 And they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb,17 because the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
and all you who mopped the creator and called him a myth ,you say you will not be terrified ,I think this will be an understatement.

idiosyncrasy //Why so many of you think that GL is contradictory is beyond me.//
From Goodlife:
//I look at the Bible as a whole and not just pick out the bits that suit//
//You point to all the irrelevant parts//
Not too difficult to spot the contradiction.
locusts, //but after his consideration he continue loves you.. (just like a parent)//
Do you admire parents who terrify, torture, and ultimately destroy their children?

You as you are correct there are times when the parents are to blame and they need to to be reported to the authorities
this is -is- not the norm of most parents who love their children ,had really take care of them. And they would laid down their life for their own..
lets coming from a different direction or turn the coin over .? I think I had this discussion review before. with you.
What would you say if the mother never ever disciplined her child has the child grew up to be a murderer - a rapist and the child with very very unruly .you had no-on control over the child . for illustration .the child had murdered and killed several people .
Be honest . Would you reported to the local authorities .to save other people's life s . love is some you or I will never understand, for it s qualities??.
1 Corinthians 13-1-13 Lexham English Bible
4 Love is patient, love is kind, love is not jealous, it does not boast, it does not become conceited, 5 it does not behave dishonorably, it is not selfish, it does not become angry, it does not keep a record of keep wrong-s

naomi24 /locusts, //love is not jealous//
//for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God”//
Apparently it is – according to religion. If your god were a human being alive today we would lock him up and throw away the key
webster-dictionary Disposed to suspect rivalry in matters of interest and affection; rivalry in love or preference
(1) According to Biblical usage, “jealousy” may be a positive or a negative quality or emotion. The Hebrew noun qin·’ahʹ variously means “insistence on exclusive devotion; toleration of no rivalry; zeal; ardor; jealousy [righteous or sinful]; envying.” The Greek zeʹlos has a similar meaning
( 2)For his people. Because of his love for his people and because they bear his holy name, god is jealous for them with a fiery zeal. Just as a husband jealously protects his wife as precious to him, so god says: “He that is touching you is touching my eyeball.” Accordingly, because of the malicious acts of the nations toward his people, God foretold: “I will be jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and with great rage I will be jealous for her,” also, that he would be zealous for his land and would show compassion upon his people.
(3) Inciting god the creator to jealousy. In his insistence on exclusive devotion, the creator is not one to be mocked. (Ga 6:7) Any one of his servants who refuses to give him wholehearted devotion, failing to love him with his whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, is trying to serve two masters. Jesus explained that the result of this course would be disastrous, for such a man would love one master and despise the other. (Mt 6:24) Such a person is “inciting [god ] to jealousy.” (De 32:16; 1Ki 14:22) In a vision given to Ezekiel, god showed him a “symbol of jealousy,” evidently idolatrous, in the gateway to the temple. (Eze 8:3, 5) For Judah’s turning away from exclusive devotion to him, gods jealousy burned against them.
(4) So then how is God's arrival .and the one who is trying to process or steel from God.. and called him the lie..
(john 8- 44 You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. That one was a murderer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of the lie.

my answer to your question
Locusts : I have checked my Hebrew dictionary for "The Hebrew noun qin·’ahʹ ", and have to assume your grasp of Hebrew is not strong enough to argue this point. The word is not usually transliterated as you do it, since the vowel is aleph, not ayin. My dictionary gives only pejorative meanings, including "fanatical", "envious, ". It gives no positive meanings whatsoever.
locusts, //my answer to your question//
But that isn’t ‘your’ answer to my question. It’s someone else’s answer, copied and pasted. You don’t seem to understand that the so-called authority of the bible holds no sway with those who question that alleged authority. A rational explanation, in your own words, to the inconsistencies I’ve raised would be good. Deciding that the bible doesn’t mean what it says when you don’t like what it’s saying isn’t good enough.
andy-hughes, he’s using a curious combination of sources – some from the JWs, others from American Evangelicals.
