… as we’re constantly being told here, what’s the problem? We’ll be dead, gone and, most importantly, oblivious, so why worry about it?

There is no hatred between the religions, unless you include Islam. They hate everybody.
Somewhere is the awful division?
I thing JWs are wrong but I don't wish anything bad on them.

Theland, my post from last night went straight over your head as it will, doubtless, go over the heads of other representatives of religion here. It seems you are all incapable of stepping outside of the ideas that other men have taught you to honestly examine the irrationality of it all. The notion of an omnipotent God that is incapable of conveying one correct message but that nevertheless requires every human being to massage its ego for eternity should give you a clue. I would hope that if a creator exists, it possesses rather more common sense than that.
naomi24 I think you have to nominate your last 2 posts as best answers as they are just great. I cannot be bothered to argue with those with religion as I have realised that they generally will not listen or even consider other view points. From now on I am going to quote your brilliant responses from here... if I can bring myself to get my dander up over any religion related statements. Yawn!!

MallyJ. thank you.
If all religions are right about other religions being wrong then we are led to the inevitable conlusion that all religions are wrong about everything. That means that the only people who have any possibility of being right are the atheists because they have no belief that can be wrong.
Naomi....Firstly I agree that your belief that I am a R/C is correct, but I am not too sure of your second assertion that I am clearly an intelligent man.

Yes , as you say love is the most important thing in this world, and I would refer you to St. Paul's letter to the Corinthians - !st.Corinthians 13:13, " So there abide faith hope and charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity ". The Greek word that was used is " agape " which is better translated as " love ", rather than charity.

I cannot though agree with your views that religion creates more hatred and more divisions between men than anything ever devised.

If we, for instance, take the 20th.Century there were some 20 plus wars, from the Boar War up to the Vietnam War, and in my opinion only two of these wars were attributable to religion, ie the Arab Israeli War and the Balcons War.

In conclusion I would like to assure you that post to Theland did not go over my head.
Spot on Naomi24
what would you do if you were told you would die within a month? Shrug your shoulders and say you'll be oblivious so what's the problem? Or be a little upset?
No it not go over my head. I take your point. But like political parties left and right, who runs things best and we recognise a difference of opinion.
However, if there were a few dozen theists knocking about, you could call them insane. But there are billions.
All insane?
And to go back to the old debate, how do you get SOMETHING from NOTHING?
Like a universe for example?
@Goodlife

//Only Jehovah’s Witnesses are recognized worldwide for their zeal in communicating their message to others on every suitable occasion//

Yes. There are no business rates to pay when you sell on the doorstep rather than run a walk-in premises, so willing customers can come to you.

If the product is invisible, untouchable and delivery is delayed until after you are dead, how can you be allowed to sell it?

In fact, how do the Jehovas' Witnesses make money? It is not asked for on the doorstep. Perhaps that's how you get around the doorstep selling laws. Are people donating money to you voluntarily?

-- answer removed --
Erm no.
To believe in a universe that come from nothing and just shrug it off and say, we don't know, is simply not good enough.
For me anyway.
Then the evidence of the bible brings me to where I am today.
Theland,
The Bible isn't really evidence for many people. It was not a contemporaneous account of anything. It is an explanation bourne of superstition and ignorance. Fair enough you accept the book to be evidence, but it is a book riddled with errors, contradictions and is out of date. As 'evidence' I think it is unreliable.
It does it for me.
I can't produce all kinds of evidence for you, simply don't have time, but it's there on the internet if you are serious about investigating yourself.
Investigate myself?
Why would I do that? Myself is the only thing in life I know for certain.
You may find you have a few surprises for yourself.
Point taken though.
My poor grammar.

Birdie, Gromit - Thank you.

SirOracle, although much conflict is attributable to religion – the world is currently in turmoil because of religion - I didn’t mention war. I said hatred and division. You tell me that Goodlife et al are morons, and in the next breath you say that religion doesn’t create division - and Theland, who says //There is no hatred between the religions, unless you include Islam// clearly holds a similarly wonky view - but like you, he fails to recognise it.

//"It seems you are all incapable of stepping outside of the ideas that other men have taught you to honestly examine the irrationality of it all." //

You assure me that my post which included that^ hasn’t gone over your head so I’m at a loss to understand why, rather than utilising your own innate rationality, you depend upon St Paul (who, when examined with an analytical eye, comes out far from squeaky clean) to speak for you.

jno, //what would you do if you were told you would die within a month? Shrug your shoulders and say you'll be oblivious so what's the problem? Or be a little upset?//

Funny you should ask that. Only a week or so back a Christian group told me that my end was imminent - Wednesday 7 October to be precise - but it didn’t bother me one iota. Just as well really, because they were worrying for nothing. They’re all still here too.

Theland, //if there were a few dozen theists knocking about, you could call them insane. But there are billions.
All insane?//

After what you said earlier – //There is no hatred between the religions, unless you include Islam. They hate everybody// - are you including Muslims in with your billions of rationally minded people? They are no less devout in their belief than you are in yours, so if you aren’t including them, why not?

To answer your final question, //All insane?//, I’m reluctant to venture that they’re ALL clinically ‘insane’ – afraid, hopeful, even brainwashed perhaps - I hesitate to say delusional – but numbers don’t equate to rationality. There is no rationality in religion - none whatsoever – but if you can demonstrate otherwise, I’m very willing to listen.
Naomi I did not say that religion does not create divisions. Twas you who said that religion creates more hatred and divisions than anything.

I was pointing out that in the 20th.century the warfare was not caused by religion (in 90% of the conflicts),so your use of hyperbole was not justified.
