Seriously though, I think the whole eternal life shtick is an unconscious social metaphor that emerged early in our social evolution, to represent an awareness that we are materially connected to everyone and everything.
ie our molecules have come from aeons before and will continue in other forms aeons after.
Very comforting.

Valhalla also sounds fun in comparison, although again I'm not sure what the ladies got from it.
The ancient Egyptian heaven was like what people seek in life now - themselves, but flawlessly beautiful, endlessly rich, days filled with fun and pleasure. The only drawback being that one of the soul's aspects needed the human body to come back and roost in, and lots depended on your name being remembered.
