Just wondering if anyone here has renounced or changed their religion, and why? What religion did you change from/to? Interested in other people's experiences.

I vaguely remember saying to my mother that I didn't want to go to Sunday school any more. She said 'okay' and that was that, I was twelve I think, that was my last interaction with God botherers unless you count the six visits to a spooky priest to de-heathenise me and make me worthy of my bride to be (not the current lucky lady). :-)
I confess (see what I did there) to enjoying some of the hymns I've heard at funerals and weddings but don't sing along, maybe scared I get the bug again.
I remember attending a funeral and was beside my youngest sister-in-law who I've known since she was about 14, 35ish years ago now and was surprised that when the time came she crossed herself along with the other faithful. Never in all our acquaintance had I seen the slightest hint of religion until then.
Seems it gets into the blood.
Sorry, I've rambled.

Evening, MissC....I was excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church in 1971......a few years after I decided it was a strange religion to belong to and had left anyway....
A removed ectopic pregnancy was the reason given by the Parish Priest for my excommunication....well, my refusal to ask for forgiveness for it.....
A strange censure is excommunication.....it binds a person to their obligations without allowing them any of the benefits of their faith.....no surprise there though....still allowed to fatten the collection plate....:-)
I'm an atheist.......one with a sadness at how religion is so cruel and destructive........
I think this is your first question.......don't let some of the replies put you off......there are two or three folk who will always answer with a snipe at somebody instead of answering the question posted.....x

Tilly is right, a lot of 'nit picking' on this thread... and as such I have deleted a fair few answers, mainly because they aren't in any way related to the question title.
So if you could all go away and rid yourself of 'nits' so you don't need to 'pick' them quite as much, that would be much appreciated! I've been told 'Full Marks' Shampoo works within 5 minutes...
