do rough sleepers go on in this weather? Ive had my heating on since 4oclock and I am still having to cover up with a quilt and hot water bottle. (I have got a cold though)
Ive slept rough in the past but that was in the summer, not in this weather.
God only knows. But any time of the year makes me marvel at how they stay vaguely sane. What do you do if you need the toilet or a glass of water?
It's my biggest fear. Worse than the thought of losing the use of my legs.

From my own experience Clover, used public toilets and kept a plastic bottle filled up with water from the sinks in them.
We had a guy who was sleeping in the bus stop here. He didn't get much help from the authorities and after two years of sleeping there, he said he didn't want to spend another winter there. Thank God he didn't or he would have died in this cold. Thankfully he has finally been given some help to get a roof over his head
I heard that he had refused hostels because most of the inhabitants were addicts of some kind and he wasn't so he preferred to sit in the bus stop. Local people and companies were really kind to him. Eventually the local cops gained his trust and he was able to move on. I was only thinking about him today when I was sitting on the settee in a nice warm house.
I agree, Nailit. If charities can help people at Christmas and during cold periods like this, why can't it be done all year round? I wonder about charities like Shelter. What are they doing about it?

Clover, I once worked with someone who used to be a manager for one of Shelters charity shops. She told me about how the higher up management used to have all expenses paid 'conferences' in top hotels. She saw through the con that was Shelter and left as soon as she was able to get another job. They do nothing for the homeless in practical terms.
Our drop in is putting up about 20 each night this week. A few other organizations will be sheltering more. But there will still be others out in the cold. Can only hope they survive the night...a problem if they have physical or mental issues that make them more vulnerable.
Sometimes it doesn't bear thinking about.
I agree, Nailit, Shelter have a poor track record on spending donations.
The one charity that does more across the UK for homeless on nights like this is the Salvation Army. They go above and beyond to provide and rely totally on public support.

Certainly doesn't Pasta.
Hazi, I had a friend once (since sadly deceased) and the Salvation Army were great to him, always donate to them when I can even if its only a bit of loose change.
//That's a big accusation you're throwing around about Shelter nailit ?//
Not my accusation Anne, that of someone who used to work for them. Why do you feel the need to nit pick at every post I make?
