Religious Animals

Why are humans the only animals on the planet that *seem* to have religious convictions?
I don't see any chimps or gorillas having wars over religion?
There have been millions of different life forms on this planet and yet it is only humans that wage war over things that cannot be substantiated?

andy's answer is plausible, but it begs questions. We have no idea if we are the only animal with a higher consciousness, and thus no idea if animals are religious. We like to imagine ourselves to be the peak of animal development, but we don't know.

Who knows what the other animals are screaming at each other when they're having fights? Maybe they're arguing about whose god is best or if there's a heaven?

I doubt it though.

You need to be able to conceive the concept of a spiritual realm before you can disagree violently over it with other. Many animals can't even conceive of themselves. Give them a mirror and they fight with it.

my dogs, cats & horses religiously come to me when I whistle. Dogs will religiously jump at me for attention.
