Anyone ever done the Christian ''Alpha Course''?

Got invited to one by work colleagues recently. Told them That I'd think about it.
I am fully aware of the Alpha Course and am fully aware of the founder of it (Nicky Gumbel) and the tactics used to recruit converts.

Just wondered if anyone else had attended one?

From the Wikipedia description, seems harmless enough. Worthwhile if interested in religion.

Did parts of it some years ago.
Run by Nicky Gumbel and Sandy something from a London church.
My criticism was it was too pneumocentric, concentrating on speaking in tongues and the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit always points to Jesus.
But a very instructive course doing the basics of Christianity and well presented, and meet lovely people.
Prayerful guidance should attend with you.

I've only known a couple of colleagues who have done it, I thought one was already a true believer before you took part, my colleagues were certainly both deeply religious (Christian).

never been but I looked into it once years ago. My feeling was that if spiritually you are already in a place that you feel suits you then why bother....if you are seeking something but don't know what then its an option but it will only show you one option and not the whole spectrum of religious/spiritual approaches that are out there...if you think the Church of England may be for you then it's worth looking at.

Having seen the Alpha Course advertised as welcoming questions I considered it but then discovered that the questions I would ask wouldn’t be welcome. If you want to be versed in someone else’s view of Christianity, go for it. If not, avoid.

I attended an Alpha Course a few years ago. Enjoyed it to an extent but found it very American and the presenter got on my nerves after a while.
