Why do many religions have strong opinions on sexual behaviour? I know they often have strong opinions about what food we eat and how many times a day or week we pray, but sex seems to set off a very powerful reaction. There seems to be a view that anything pleasurable is wicked; but surely god (if there is such a being) gave us the sense of taste and the ability to feel pleasure. Why then do the religious bosses disapprove of so much?

From a Christian point of view, sex in marriage represents the powerful union of a couple, two become one.
In a spiritual sex is a metaphor for the union of Christ and his Church as Christians are the Bride of Christ. Hope that helps

The Morms should try one, or go Commando!
Churches want to control family allegiances that would be created through parenting relationships to manipulate where power is concentrated.
The reason sex and religion are so intertwined is because...

The whole reason Christianity started was because virgin mary cheated on her husband / boyfriend whatever and instead of coming clean, decided to claim it was gods doing,in effect kick starting Christianity.

In today's age we'd just do a DNA test.
^ or go on the Jeremy Kyle show.
Great idea, mibs. :o)
Theland - // Pixie - I do not follow any religion which are all man made.
I am a bible believing Christian.
What does it do for me?
It gives me a personal relationship with my Saviour Jesus Christ, who is everything to me. //

Christianity is, by definition, man-made, and so is the Bible, so I fail to understand how you can reconcile a faith as a 'bible believing Christian' and profess to eschew the 'man-made' aspects.

I am honestly not bothered, it simply speaks to the confusion that you exhibit on here when you post about aspects of faith.
If god impregnated a woman without her consent or knowledge then he's a rapist.
God must have molested poor Mary whilst she was sleeping.
Mary may well have been the only one ever to cry out 'OMG' and really mean it.
Thread sinking into the usual 'group-think' & latterly, group non-think;

Khandro, the humour here emanates from spath's considered deliberations. Your lady is over-thinking it - and so are you. ;o)
