After years of debate on here (and elsewhere, both online and in person) with religious fundamentalists, there's only one conclusion that can be reached.
Their brains are switched off!

Im not talking about the average person who happens to have a religious belief. I mean the fundies. Those who believe whole heartedly in a given dogma and wont make any concession that they may be wrong, despite been shown evidence to the contrary.

I remember reading an Arthur C Clarke article once where he talked about a team of scientists who set up an observatory in a muslim country to observe a solar eclipse. The team of scientists were ridiculed by the local clerics who said that only Allah knows the timing of such things. After the eclipse, the clerics accepted that it had happened but said that it was nothing more than an amazing coincidence...

I have no problem at all with religious believers, but some (like the clerics above) cant accept the bloody obvious even when its been presented to them right before their eyes.
It gets passed over like its never even been read!!!

Corbyloon - Cause and effect? A first cause?
Theland, if there was a first cause you don't know what it was and neither does anyone else. Stop claiming you do. It's silly.

I'm going to bed. Night all.
The only, point I have is that you criticise without ever offering evidence for your own views but are highly critical and even insulting of others views.
Hardly surprising as you obviously must keep stoking your ego.
Even if an all-powerful being created the Universe, how do you know that being is the same God you worship?
IF there was a first cause?
IF?
The science you swear by has proven there was a beginning to matter / energy, time and space. From nothing.
So, how?
Obviously a cause. A first cause.
What say you Nailit? It's your thread.
Theland, for goodness sake understand that I don't have views. I don't know how the universe began. For all you or I know it might have been there forever. I like rationality - and claiming you know what no one on this planet can possibly know simply isn't rational.
Naomi - For goodness sake, you and I both know that science has proven the universe had a beginning and is not past eternal.
No ... we don’t. Nothing is ‘proven’ until it’s ‘proven’ and that isn’t ‘proven’. And even if it was there’s no reason to believe that something imaginary was responsible. For goodness sake get a grip and give it a rest. You’ll drive yourself - and the rest of us - potty!
I know how much you just love to have the last word, so your response to this will be final, in the interests of not driving you potty.
She's probably gone to bed so I'll have the last word.

And the word is …. Trombone.
Ludwig - Great word :-)
THECORBYLOON; //Where is the proof that God created the universe?//

Well if God didn't, who did?
The scientists certainly struggle.
They think they have the answer to how stars and planets formed bit their theories are full of holes,(check them out).
And water. Where did it come from?
Again science struggles, but its good enough for atheists to swallow, pun intended.
KHANDRO, why must an entity be responsible for the creation of the universe?
Corbyloon - Have you ever come across anything that created itself?
Or a created thing that was greater than its creator?
I haven't.
THELAND, water can be created using hydrogen, oxygen and a spark.
There's an awful lot of water on this planet :-)
Honestly, check it out, the origin of water is really not fully understood.
Theland, //I know how much you just love to have the last word//

Your constant personal attacks don't wash, Theland. Just plain nasty. That said, attempting to silence the opposition is a sure sign of a failed argument. :o)

Khandro, //Well if God didn't [create the universe] who did?//

You really don’t see what a ridiculously irrational question that is, do you? Why you don’t is quite beyond me. Do you never actually 'think' about it?
Not nasty at all.
