Our Selfish God.

A quote from Naomi on the, '' Benign,'' thread :-
. This selfish God says worship him or woe betide you, and the cowardly do as they are bid lest they compromise the safety of their souls in defence of truth. If man was made in God’s image it shows. What a selfish, self-obsessed creature he is.
This quote raises a few questions.
Is God selfish? Yes, most certainly, He tells us this in the Bible.
Those who do His bidding are cowardly? How? That surely demands an explanation and some examples.
I believe in God, have I made the impression of being cowardly?
On the contrary, it would be easier for me to embrace the majority consensus on God, science and evolution, but I don't. Is that cowardly?
It is true that people are selfish, that is the cause of moral evil.
So Naomi, what on earth are you talking about?

Theland - // Andy, I bet you are really good at your job, and you are intelligent and articulate, you leave me standing, but you are in total error when you try to construct a psychological profile of me.
What am I to do?
Be offended?
Defend myself?
Neither. //
I would not waste my time trying 'construct a psychological profile' of you I simply go by what you post on here, and on that basis, you are a homophobe, although you won't admit it, and you regard anything other than a 'standard' decided by your god to be 'perverted'.
// It makes not an iota of difference to me what others think of me personally, but I shall comfort myself in the knowledge that you are wrong. //
I do admire a man with a sense of humour, and carrying around your fear and abhorrence of people different to you, you absolutely need one!

Theland - // I don't fully understand the subject of homosexuality, but I think quite often it is a choice and a wrong one at that. //
You're wrong when you say you don't fully understand homosexuality, with a statement like that, it's clear you don't understand it at all.
// Regarding my own son, again neither he nor I have all of the answers, but love conquers all and we love each other.
I do know that he and his partner are totally put off by the whole effeminate gay scene … //
"Put off"?
Put off what?
It's not a club, they are not trying to recruit you as a member!
Since it's clear you don't understand homosexuality, let me educate you a little.
There is a section of the gay community that don't take the endless mindless superior prejudice and hostility that is meted out to them on a daily basis from straight society - and they exaggerate their effeminacy to wear it proudly like a badge of honour, to cock a snook at the world and announce to anyone and everyone that they are gay and proud of it.
That's a position some people choose to take - it only upsets or offends you if you choose to let it - you can simply look the other way, as I do when I see tattooed beer-bellied louts shouting in the streets, displaying their masculinity in exactly the same way, but for different reasons.
Your son, you claim is 'put off' by extrovert gay behaviour, but again, he is not obliged to join in.
I suspect he pretends that position to allow you to feel your prejudice more freely, which says much about his love for you, since it is clear to me, and anyone on here, so it must be clear to you, that you abhor his orientation, and only sigh with relief that his lack of effeminate activity means that you can pretend to everyone else, and to yourself in the wee small hours, that he is 'normal', and not part of the 'perversion' that vexes you so much.
