Am I right in thinking that most of the authors thought the Earth was flat.

Why should anything else in the bible have any credibility ?

Where, in the Bible, does it say that the earth is/was flat?
Question Author
No idea, just a presumption I have concerning the authors.
You do post a lot about religion / god / Bible , for someone who doesn't believe , don't you

You just want a confrontation or what ?
Well my patch is pretty much flat.

Hi Mamya, a quick glance confirms he is a nut job making dosh out of the gullible.
so basically you are assuming something about a book (books) you have never read and making a judgement based on that assumption? ooooookayyyyyy
Costs you nothing to read the article then make up your own mind.
Question Author
My mind is already made up. I have seen many programs, mainly USA, where some bible preaching maniac is making millions.

I only read biographies of interesting people, I have no time for works of fiction.
Certainly, the story about Adam and Eve being the first people on earth does seem unlikely. But then, the authors didn't know anything about evolution, and they no doubt thought that it was up to them, as learned people, to come up with something plausible.
SK, who gives a damn about what you have read and what you believe?
Ah, so you know the Bible did not describe the Earth as flat, yet still you ask.

I see where you're going with this.

I have never read the koran but I understand that muslims believe mohammed split the moon in two and ascended skywards on a white horse.
so do I mamya....someone is spoiling for a fight and I don't intend to oblige.
:-)
there is no indication that the authors of the Bible had any sort of opinion of the nature of the earth and solar system generally. Though there is clear evidence, BC, that there was some level of understanding of planetary mechanics. indeed the very word "planet" is from the ancient greek for wanderer. The Koran is more or less identical to the bible.
Question Author
The Greeks referred to the planets as wandering stars as they could not understand why they moved, as the constellations were static.
Islam uses the Hijri Calendar based on the moon, so it is 11 days shorter than the actual year, that is why all their months are wrong, the one we know most about in the west is Ramadan and that is 11 days earlier each year. I worked on the Barclays bank Islamic "mortgages" system - usery is not allowed under Islam thus they buy a house like an HP deal with "fees"!
The constellations are not static. They revolve around the North Star.
yes SK, a fact that cause the Spanish Inquisition huge problems with their Earth Centric solar system!
