Alan W. Watts stated: The full story of Easter is a most complex mixture of history and mythology—so much so that the difficult task of distinguishing between the two is far beyond the scope of a short book.” This being the case with Easter, would God accept our worship if it included such a mixture of pagan customs? No. God accepts only “the form of worship that is clean and undefiled.” And this means to “keep oneself without spot from the world,” which would include the worldly customs associated with Easter.—James 1:27.

Last night was the first in quite a few years that no one played that on my thread at Easter Zacs.
Goodlife, it means various things to me both on the religious front and personal connections and memories, mainly happy ones.
This weekend has shown that it is now viewed as another topic for a squabble.
Never mind.

There are numerous Easter customs and practices followed by different cultures around the world. Some have no obvious link to Christianity.
In countries in the Northern Hemisphere there were Pagan/Spring/ New Birth festivals that are Pre Christian. You would hardly expect anything different.
As I said in my previous post the Crucifixtion and Resurrection are entirely what is unique and foundational to Christianity

Jesus himself spoke against traditions that twisted Scriptural truths and adulterated true worship. At Mark 7:6-8, Jesus’ words to the today religious leaders of his day are recorded: “Isaiah aptly prophesied about you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men.’ Letting go the commandment of God, you hold fast the tradition of men.”
Goodlife, your preaching is ill considered. You should recognise hypocrisy by looking closer to home for a clue to just who is honouring god with his lips. You’ll find it isn’t the atheists.
Theland, I wrote something on the ‘He is risen’ thread that might give you food for thought. I fail to see why an almighty, all powerful god should struggle for so long with his plan for anything. A quick zap should suffice ... unless he’s not capable of that.
