Is there any significance to the positioning of churches, cathedrals etc?
I've read about energy lines or ley lines as they are known running under them and even most large ancient buildings covering previous Pagan worship sites or is it only about community and the historical emergence of towns or cities?

Naomi, Thanks very much for the info. I know this might sound strange but according to the link you gave the ley lines are said to attract much storm activity. Do you suppose that lightning is then charging the Earth through these?
I know that's gone off the religious thread slightly but hey! What the heck.

The existence of ley lines was suggested by an amateur archaeologist in the 1920s. A whole new area of study in geodesy commenced and many believe that there is something meaningful about geographical positioning and the gravity field and geometrical aspects of temporal variations, studies of the Earth's magnetic field are also carried out under geodesy.
Whilst many would argue that the theory of ley lines and geographic positioning is purely coincidental since even now most people prefer to walk in straight lines or even a fanciful supposition, research in Egypt has shown that natural geographic and indeed astrological patterns have been imitated by man on earth in ancient times vis the pyramids, the Nile and the Milky Way. So it is not an impossibility.
The original suggestion was that ancient monuments and monoliths may have followed some linear pattern, and it is possible of course that during some reformation of banishing paganism that churches and cathedrals would have replaced some of these monuments and hence fallen along the path of the alleged ley lines.

I dont really know to be perfectly honest. Places of worship tend to have something that seemingly lacks scientific comprehension. One can walk around say, Stonehenge even Salisbury Plain - or the Vatican and feel a sense of awe and put this down to some spiritual elation. However, I suspect it has more to do with a sense of historic wonderment since I had similar sensations walking around the Great Pyramid as I did walking around the Colosseum or the Uffizi Gallery.
I would imagine that there is some gravitas in the existence of the Earths magnetic field and the possibility of geographical positioning along some spectral plain (ley lines), but my instincts tell me that our ancient ancestors just found a nice spot (or convenient depending upon the ritual intention*) to plonk their temple/monolith usually just away from the settlement.
* Some temples were built on the edge of a cliff in order that sacrifices to gods including human sacrfice could be thrown into the sea.

I would like to think that our planet and any other has a energy matrix (That sounds good but I don't know what it means) running through them. A connective force binding everything together including us as part of it.
(To all scientific minded individuals:Please don't correct my choice of words: ie:- force, energy and so on as it's the only ones I can think of at the moment).
Do I have any proof?
No.
