End of world 21st December 2012?

Watched a program on Mayan Prophecy and heard that on this date the planets will allign and the Earth will be destroyed (judgement day), apparently astrologers have confirmed it. Any thoughts?

commonsense, don't worry about it. Yours is an interesting question worthy of debate. Some people appear to be more learned than others, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are. Never forget that ABers are anonymous and there are some who quite clearly hook chunks of information from the web or from books, and post it as their own work. Check the style of writing, and you will easily spot the tricksters. People are, of course, sceptical, but in reality who knows if this prophecy will be fulfilled? No one - and it doesn't matter how clever they are, or how clever they would like you to think they are.

Incidentally, I find it ironic that Christians continually tell us the end of the world is nigh, and yet they ridicule non-Christians for predicting precisely the same event. Odd that.

I have read about the Mayan prophecy before and I don't think that what they were predicting was the end of the world, just a new world. There have been various worlds/orders call them what you will in the Mayan calender and this new one beginning in 2012 will be number 5 or 6 or something.

Yes, I think they were predicting a new era too, Spudqueen. The cycle they actually worked on was something like 26000 years.

As for Lonnie saying that, you have surprised me, about a year ago you and I had a debate about Jesus and religion and you said you had to get back to me as you didnt know how to answer me.... that was a year ago, still waiting on that reply.................. Also from my past history you should remember I dont put questions on here that are easily disproved and Im certainly not a doomsayer. I would really like to carry on that thread, I found your arguments very interesting last time
