Ghosts/presences/odd things happening!!!

Can anyone tell me how best to deal with some very odd things that have been happening in my house........some of it the usual sort of stuff like foot steps on our third floor...doors shutting (when noone near them) taps turning themselves on, temperature changes (sometimes extreme hot to cold and vice versa)..theres loads more....but has anyone else had stuff like this happen, and wot did u do about it...or anything...it really spooks me, but my wife is totally cool with it all and refuses to have the house blessed.!!

One of our homes was 'haunted', and we experienced some of the things you describe. Our 'ghost' slammed doors, made houseplants 'dance', pounded up the stairs apparently wearing hobnail boots, and regularly, at sometime during the night, put every clock and watch in the house back exactly one hour. It's footsteps accompanied my husband through the hall and into the kitchen every morning, and it often, very noisily, appeared to be kicking at our garden door with brute force. It also had a habit of hiding things. My purse, with all my credit cards, once disappeared from my handbag, only to turn up three months later sitting on the arm of a sofa. It was frightening, but we learned to live with it and didn't do anything about it at all. I came to the conclusion that whatever was causing the disturbances didn't know we were there and couldn't physically hurt us. I think it was existing in its own world. Nevertheless, we eventually sold the house and moved.

Get a building surveyor. You obviously have a draft from somewhere, and the floorboards may need adjusting/refurb so that they can expand and contract with temperature changes, without making any noise. They also might be able to check out the plumbing and central heating as well, or at least recommend someone.

Personally, I'd do what Octavius suggested.

But if you really believe in ghostly type things... Well, why don't you just ask it to stop? Seriously. Perhaps it doesn't know it's upsetting you.

I think that those who walk on a different plain (ghosts) can be going about their daily routine without even being aware that others physically inhabit the house.
There are those that repeat the same movements over and over at a specific time.
I'm not sure if having the house blessed will help but if you wish to remain in the house and this phenomena continues then try whatever means you think maybe useful.

It's easy to mock when you've never experienced this sort of thing Once plumbers have checked the pipes and central heating system, carpenters have checked the floorboards and door and window fittings, surveyors have checked the structure of a house, and still things happen, it really isn't funny, and it takes a restricted mind to dismiss other possibilities when there is no logical explanation. When your front door, of its own accord, opens wide and then slams shut, and you hear someone running up the hall and clattering up the stairs, apparently in hobnail boots, the central heating it's not! Incidentally, who should I have called to check why clocks and watches, be they electrical, battery or clockwork, were all regularly set back an hour on the same night? A plumber, a carpenter, a surveyor? I think not!

Yikes! The same thing happened to me last spring and I arrived just in time to see them closing down the Sunday Brunch Line precisely one hour early . . .

Hmmmm I'm still on the fence for this one...part of me says dont be daft there is always an explanation....but another part of me cant see what the logical explanation for some things that have happened can be :-/

One that has really baffled me is...an old alarm clock radio that belonged to my dad before I was born so it is old lolIt will come on radio by itself even tho its set to 'off' I thought it could be a loose wire, but when I turned it 'on' it would go to a different station??? :-/

mib, tut tut .... everyone knows that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Our clocks and watches really were often set back an hour during the night - every single one of them. I wish I could find a logical explanation, but I can't - and clearly neither can you.

I dunno if i can give a sensible answer here, sounds funny. I dunno if its down to an individual and there willingness to believe in these things. I've had houses that make funny noises, things closing and stuff, i've never put it down to ghosts and ive never really looked for explanations. I've had material items lost and refound in strange places. My one house made some dreadfull noises, tapping noises on ceilings, people running up and down stairs, I was once in a friends house and suddenly a picture fall off her wall, an hour later she was trying to find a phone number for ghostbusters, no joke. I thought nothing of it. I do think some people have an eagerness and willingness for these things. When you do become sentitized to a situation you will feel 10 times the need for an explanation than you would of another situation you wasnt sensitized to. If my door opened id just close it and go back to watching to telly.

Poeple never know they have been sensitized, being senstive to a situation can magnify in 20 times and your brain will con you into thinking your thinking normally, when really your not.
You'll seek answers and answer and become frustrated when you fail.i could be wrong though

Theland, since we are old friends and have even shared a "Knees Up Mother Brown" together, I don't know why you've reverted to the formality of including my surname, and I'd rather you call me Naomi as usual. Nevertheless, thank you for your answer. As you say, although we don't doubt that such things occur, we do disagree on the reasons, but mocking from people who cannot provide an explanation I can take. As you know, I'm a determined and fairly rational lady - unless of course I've been at the vino yet again!!

if any doubters can give me an explanation for the clocks and watches going back an hour all on the same nights, then I'll be very happy to listen. And before anyone suggests it, it was nothing to do with British Summertime - it happened frequently throughout the year, and it was witnessed by the whole family.

The same thing happend to me...we bought a house that was a barn conversion and things like lights would be turned off and keys would go missing. the final straw came when a plant in the en-suite (with a non-openeing window, ergo, no draft) was found in the middle of the bathroom floor. I shouted 'I don't care if you live here, just don't make a mess'. Nothing happend after that. I christened him Jack (thought it quite likely that a farm hand would have such a name/feeling for the lady of the house) and he never came back whilst we we in the house. If he came back once we sold I'll never know..didn't put it in the documents!

The great mysteries of life will remain, just that.
There are many strange things that happen to everyday folk who are not looking for media attention, to gain friends or any other reason. They are just asking for help or explanations as to the odd occurrences (ghosts etc) within their households.
This can be a terrifying experience for those involved.
Instead of arguing whether we think the ghosts exist, we should be trying to at least offer some(if only through words) comfort to the distressed.

How can we be sure that its ghosts, could be aliens or something we have never encountered. What is a ghost, a bored dead person who likes to make noise. what is the point of it like.
