I'm aware I'm probably opening a can of worms with this post, but still...

There's an article in a magazine i read today about a mother who lets her 7 year old Daughter learn pole dancing. In the town where she lives they run a class calle "Pole Brats" teaching kids from 6-17 how to do pole dancing. The woman who runs the group says there's nothing sexual about it, and she blames strip clubs for placing a stigma on pole dancing, and that those kind of clubs shouldn't exist. She insists its just a fun way for kids to get fit.

The article in question carries a picture of the 7 year old, admittedly dressed in respectable pink shorts and a vest top, with the pole between her legs in a pose that would be considered quite seedy if it were an adult woman in skimpy shorts.

SO my question is this, do you think its a bad idea for little girls to do pole dancing - does it promote paedophilia, as some people have suggested, or is it really just harmless fun?

sounds a bit pervy to me, I wouldn't let my daughter do that kind of thing, however saying that, and playing Devils advocate, it is a good way of keeping fit and suptle, but then so is learning gymnastics....
But where else would you see a pole dance apart from in a strip club?????

What a stupid woman she must be.

The pole, I believe is a phallus and the whole dance is provocative.

So to answer your question, yes it is wrong. Very wrong.
Hmmm, i have to agree with the above 2 .
With parents like hers around its no wonder the kids of today are growing up like they are.
Just out of curiosity pinkkitty, whats your views on this?

reading my question back i realised i didn't actually share my own opinion!

Well, I'm not a parent, but i do have a 10 year old goddaughter, I'd be horrified to think of her doing something like that. I'd be even more horrified to think that her mum would let her! You know how show off-ish kids can be, what if Bailey, the kid from the article, were to show off her moves somewhere outside of the class or in her home, and attract the attention of some sick pervert. I know that if Paedophiles didn't exist then maybe Pole Dancing for kids wouldn't seem so awful, but the sad truth of the matter is, we live in a society where Paedophilia seems to be on the rise, and it seems easier than ever for these sickos to meet other sickos and trade child pornography.
I'm sorry but this woman is puddled, correct me if i'm wrong but pole dancing was "invented" purely for errrrr sexual gratification if others wasn't it?

A good way of keeping fit? What's wrong with letting her play outside and play normal games with other children?

In all, I find the idea revolting, I am however aware that I'm quite an old fashioned parent, to the extent that I even hate those Bratsz dolls as in my mind they are extremely s1utty looking and not suitable (im my eyes) for little girls to play with.
You can thank all the do-gooders and the their re-habilitation views for the amount of paedofiles roaming around the streets these days.
Maybe when they get to 16, 17 then i suppose it wouldnt be so bad as thats when they can pick subjects at school.
The next thing will see is it being offered as a subject in school actually.lol...

This parent is an utter disgrace, imagine letting a 7 year old learn something sexual, i bet she will have 4 children by 4 fathers by the time she is 17.
no wonder the country is going to the dogs

she's got another daughter, a 2 year old, and says she will let her learn too, when she gets to the right age. The woman who runs the class wants to enter 4 of her students on some TV show called "Britain's got talent" Do you think the'd really let on a troupe of poledancing children?!
Both sound pretty nave.
Shouldnt places that teach this profession have an age limit?
Surely it cant be legal to teach young girls this.
If its not legal then do you not think there is a moral obligation there by the owners not to let young girls enrol?
Like the above says, it just goes to show what the mother is like.
I am not a parent, but if i have a few nieces and would vent my views on my sisters/brothers of they were thinking of sending them to one of these...
I suspect the sl*ttiness may be in the eye of the beholder. Assuming the children aren't invited to perform in front of an audience of 50-year-old men, I wouldn't be too bothered. It's not as if children are being told they're being trained to be prostitutes - parents may or may not think so but the kids themselves would have no idea. I do wonder, though, if little boys go to these classes?

I took poll dancing classes at the start of the year. At first my parents were...well lets say not impressed! BUT after the first class and O what a class! I was completely worn out and could barley move the next day also covered in bruises!..am I selling it or what?! ;o )

The point is, I had the BEST work out I have ever had just from taking poll dancing classes, after 3 sessions I had toned my arms thighs and stomach muscles.

I totally agree with the teachers point of view, it is an absolutely fantastic way to keep fit and unless you've tried it I honestly dont believe you can say otherwise.

From taking the classes my opinion of poll dancers being merely being overpaid ***** has completely changed, they are incredibly strong, have excellent co-ordination and extremely flexible...as I am now ;o )

I can see how some people disagree with teaching this to kids but it is honestly, in my opinion, one of the best ways to keep fit...try it and try telling me otherwise.

That's her! Lairaine Riddel. At 7, Bailey is her youngest member.
Pole dancing for little girls? I think it's ridiculous!

It's bad enough when buying outfits for our two youngest granddaughters & seeing 'sexy' underwear & clothes with 'naughty - over the top' slogans on - let alone teaching them pole dancing!

i recently started Chinese kickboxing + Kung Fu classes, after spending most of my adult life in the Army, I was already fit, but after the first Kickboxing lesson, I too was shattered. The point I'm trying to make is that there are other ways to teach fitness that gyrating aroung a make believe c o c k
Yes, it might be good exercise, but I totally agree with BOO's comments.

my last answer was to Gromit, by the way

I've thought about learning Pole dancing myself, as i have heard a lot about it being good excercise. But then I'm 28, not 8. I still don't think its an appropriate thing to teach kids - while yes, there are health benefits for them, what about the people who prey on young girls. surely having a child that can pole dance is like Paedophile heaven, or something?!
Djerba i am not saying its bad to pole dance, i have been to many pole dancing clubs and the women are in really good shape.
I just think its immoral to teach a young child these things, whether its good excercise or not.
Like i say, when they get to age where they choose options, like in school, then i dont see anything wrong with it.
But nothing anyone can say can convince me that it is right to teach a 7 year old girl to poledance...
Have you got a boyfriend pinkkitty?
