Why is there a cult to user name 'Ethel'?
56 Answers
It appears to me after a few days on Answerbank that there is an Answerbank community which glorifies someone called 'Ethel' who is a poster on these forums.
Why is this the case?
It is highly annoying that whilst some people spend time on the site to offer genuine answers for people, others go on it to follow a users' lead in witch-hunts against other users (such as the phishing scam posting) or issues (such as the staged debate of Bottled Water which the user admitted was to have a joke with Ethel)!
I wish users would actually respect posters in answering questions genuinely or posting a REAL question, not a joke posting for an in-joke, as this makes Answerbank very unappealing.

For goodness sake, pour some whiskey in your bottled water will you?
Whilst AB is full of lovely people, some are held in higher esteem than others because their advice is sound and very knowledgeable, Ethel is such a user.
We respect most posters on this site, however we have a low tolerance of new users who come on and immediately start throwing their toys out the pram.
If you'd just chill a bit, read the forum, and get to know us- you'll find that the site's a good one and most of us are fairly nice.

It seems like a childish cult of followers to me.
How dare you mock my answer for the bottled water posting. Just because I can offer a genuine answer to a question rather than blindly follow a trend in thinking water is water because it is a) called water and b) looks the same, does not make me inferior.
Perhaps it is age that dictates that I dont see the funny side of mocking answers or questions, but I suggest that you stay well clear of whisky, child!

I have been a user for a fortnight, and have never previously registered. If I had been banned, i wouldnt have still been able to post again as myself.
You appear to be confused. Just because i do not follow the crowd and give a balanced answer to a question, does not mean i sell it. Likewise I neither sell water, lemon, horses or horseradish!
I did not teach for 35 years to now sell products on a question site!

Has to be less than a fortnight MGraham, or else you wouldn't still be green, but hey I'm not going to quibble over it.
May be you got the wrong impression about us and the site from that one particular question. You may not realise that over the past few weeks we've been innudated with users selling their bottled water by disguising their posts as questions, it got very boring, very quickly. Apologies if you, as a genuine new user was also assumed to be one of those sellers.
Now...how about looking through the site and forming a different opinion to it and us than the one you seem to have?

so you and timothy, who have suddenly both appeared on food and drink arent the same Graham and timothy who keep having conversations about a certain bottled water supplier in the London area and getting banned on a regular basis then??
If youre not then please just continue making posts about other users, like this one, and you may not be around for very long anyway.

Many questions on here, especially in chatterbank, are poted with tongue in cheek.
The question you answered, was in fact one of the 'jokey' ones. It's an on-going thing with someone blatantly advetising on here, which is not allowed. Ethel is usually the one to spot it, and report it.
As she was probably engaged elsewhere, answering one of the many questions she gives brilliant answers to, she must have missed it, and it was scotgal and myself who actually reported it.
Lighten up a bit, and join in the fun....

Im sorry to disappoint but there is only one MGraham, and as you can see by the M, my name is not Timothy.
If you want to get me banned for giving genuine answers and being annoyed by the attitude of Ethel in some answers such as the phishing question (presumably having been on this site for so long they feel they are the authority of what can/cannot be asked), then please do so. But i dont think it will happen, as I am genuinely answering questions and not following a user or forming a cult for them, regardless of how many hours they spending posting per day.

redcrx - Timothy was by the looks of it asking what oil to cook a roast with?!
I fail to see how that is
a) anything to do with Water?
b) anything to do with me?
c) offensive?
My goodness, who sets the rules of what questions someone can ask. The poor chap only wanted to cook a roast in the correct oil. Haha, poor man,
