Following on from the Atheism question below , it would appear that the Majority responding do not believe in what is generally reffered to as a ' god ' - although I notice that even Jake is prepared to keep a toe in the door - just in case .

However given the vast unknown of what we call and perceive to be the ' universe' , does anyone think that there must be ' some great intelligence' out there ?

What caused / what was before the 'big bang ' ?
I suspect that the scientists/ cosmologists amongst us will say that there was ' nothing' before the big bang

they do, much as Christians say there was nothing before God: both will say the concept of 'before' is meaningless since time and space came into being simultaneously.

I think you've misunderstood Jake's position; he's not got a toe in the door because he thinks that there really might be a god, he's saying that if someone provided testible proof that there were a god - so far none exists - he'd change his mind.

The question is no more meaningful than if I asked you what you were doing 200 years ago and then insisted that you had to be doing something!

Just because you can't conceive of something like a lack of time doesn't mean it is untrue

Who Created God?
The first principle to understand is that God is not a man (Numbers 23:19). He is outside the space time continuum, so much so that he can experience a parity of duration equivalent of a thousand years buffered to 1 day and 1 day expanded to a thousand years (2 Peter 3:8). We as humans cannot do that. We must experience one day at a time. God's thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). We are physical. God is spirit (John 4:24). There are spirit beings who have had no parents (Hebrews 7:3). The Father (the Most High God) was not born and has no parents. He will exist eternally into the future (Revelation 11:15). He has existed eternally in the past (Titus 1:2). Our minds are finite and we cannot conceptualize the idea of eternally into the past due to this limitation in our minds. Nevertheless we can acknowledge the fact. We, as humans have to gain power as we grow up because we are physical. However, it is the nature of God (who is spirit) to be all powerful, almighty (Genesis 17:1). His power is also infinite (having no end).
Our existence is bounded by the speed of light. But God IS light! (1 Timothy 6:16). His Son is the light for this planet (John 8:12, John 9:5, John 12:46).
Generally physical things are superior when they are more complex. The Spirit world is the opposite. That which is superior has more simplicity (2 Corinthians 11:3). Any one who has seen Christ has, in essence, seen the Father (John 14:9). There was no need for God to be created. God is self-existent; He is the great I AM (Exodus 3:14). God has the attributes of power, creativity, and balance. It is through the sacrifice of his Son that we have a chance at salvation (Acts 4:12).

rov1200, We cannot substantiate biblical text, so it offers no proof that God exists. Out of interest, I see you aren't using the King James bible, so would you mind telling me which version you're using? Thanks.

Only if few people had not added few human made bits and pieces in what they belived might be god and god's words, people wouldn't have refused his existence.

I remember a lovely quote I heard once:

It is much better to live your life as though there IS a god, and find out there isn't, than to live your life as though there IS NOT a god, and find out there is.

(Personally dont believe there is any "super being" and man only invents one because he is a little bit scared of the universe. Once he has invented one he then goes to another country and kills all the people who dont believe in HIS super being, and so it goes on)
