So now they have their girl, does that mean they can't have sex anymore unless they want more children???

The Catholic churchs opposition to birth control has nothing to do with sex but procreation.
Obviously the cathlics who have children the more catholics you get ipso facto the Catholic Church Inc gets more money.
Never mind how much poverty they or their children live in.
The only acceptable form of birth control is the rhythem method ('cos it don't work)

Have a really good friend who was asked by the priest why she only had 2 children as the church didn't support birth control ,she replied that the Holy father and God didn't have to support or give birth to them she did.
The priest told her it was a sin. She no longer goes to church.
I was raised a catholic but I don't hold with the beliefs and my children haven't been brought up with any religion

Catholic Alert!!! I dont have any problem with sex, ok, maybe a bit of brewers droop in my younger years, but I positively enjoy it and encourage it. In fact, I recommend everyone tries it at least once.
I suppose my mum and dad were a bit like Sashas neighbours, I am the youngest I have quite a few older sisters. But then I would not be here, and answerbank would not be graced with my presence. :o)
Ok, firstly I do not object to the use of contraception, I have used it in and out of marriage, still use it and would ensure all of my children were informed enough to make the right choices for the sake of their own health and future and use it as well.
Secondly, I abhor the fact as much as anyone that the Pope refuses outright to accept or promote the use of contraception, if only on the grounds of health, population and poverty.
Thirdly, even if the Pope did relinquish the doctrine to meet modern standards, I am not convinced this would entirely cure the world of its ills. I may be wrong, but I cant imagine there are that many teenage Catholics in England not using contraception because it was the pope wot sed it, yet we have the highest number of teenage pregnancies in Europe (42 in 1000 of under 18s each year), 11,000 under-16s diagnosed with chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhoea, syphilis or genital warts between 2002 & 2006, and over half of those teenage pregnancies are aborted, with many having repeat abortions (in 2007, 5,897 girls under 20 had their second, third or even fourth termination). And this, in a country where contraception is recommended, promoted, encouraged, advertised and handed out for free. I should think most young people in the UK, dont give a rats nadgers what some old foreign bloke in fancy dress and a pointy hat says about condoms, but why are so many of them disregarding their own health so easily?

Genesis:
6 For his first son Er, Judah got a wife whose name was Tamar.
7 Ers conduct was evil, and it displeased the LORD, so the LORD killed him.
8 Then Judah said to Ers brother Onan, Go and sleep with your brothers widow. Fulfill your obligation to her as her husbands brother, so that your brother may have descendants.
9 But Onan knew that the children would not belong to him, so when he had intercourse with his brothers widow, he let the semen spill on the ground, so that there would be no children for his brother.
10 What he did displeased the LORD, and the LORD killed him also
This can be interpreted to every Sperm is sacred

Seems to me this is the big one in Catholicism.
There is huge widespread disobediance to the Catholic Church's teaching on contraception within the Catholic community.
Octavius is very typical.
The Catholic church knows this too.
I cannot for the life of me see why they simply cannot back down on this issue. It's a huge wedge between the Catholic church and it's adherants and is a handy stick to beat Catholics up over.
I can see why some might object to the coil or the pill where an egg is fertillised - if you still hold the absurd idea that life begins at conception that would be a problem.
But their continuation to oppose condoms is simply getting beyond a joke.

Octavius- "I should think most young people in the UK, dont give a rats nadgers what some old foreign bloke in fancy dress and a pointy hat says about condoms, but why are so many of them disregarding their own health so easily?"
I completely agree. It's a mystery why we have such problems when contraception and sex education are so available here, especially when as you say, everyone ignores what the pope says anyway. Maybe our young people are just bl00dy stupid.
I was thinking more about Africa, and the aids epidemic in particular. I don't think it's too strong to say the Catholic church has blood on it's hands in that regard.

Perhaps he would consider a compromise?
To be honest Ludwig I wont pretend to know the full situation in sub-Saharan Africa but of course the Vaticans stance does not help the situation. The Catholic church has blood on its hands? Of course, it has done for nearly 2,000 years. Perhaps we could include international governments, the African nations and every other global organisation. Why arent durex or mates (French) letter-bombing these places?
I do however wonder whether a change from the Vatican would have any great impact. If these people in Africa are saying that the Pope says that they shouldnt use contraception, then one must assume that they are following the doctrine that says you should only have sex for the purpose of procreation and are therefore trying to have even more babies, rather than following the doctrine of abstaining. And if they are trying to have babies, then they run the risk of breeding infected babies dont they? Also, it would appear that these people are having sex with multiple partners surely the Vatican says that is not permitted? So why are they so lacking in personal responsibility and social conscience? Botswana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and South Africa the nations with the highest levels of condom availability continue to have the highest rates of HIV prevalence.
