If someone wants to have/does have faith then that's up to them, I think it's a pointless waste of time, that's up to me. I don't think less of someone who has faith (I actually think it's quite nice really) and I don't suppose they do of me.
Most people use their religions to lead peaceful lives and to draw comfort in times of stress. If you would chose to make people give you a 'rational answer' on how or why they quietly go about their lives then I would say that makes you intolerent and gives the rest of us athiests/humanists/non-religous types a bad name and makes you look arrogant and rude. You no more know the answers to life than anyone else so yes, let's discuss, let's debate, let's look at the facts and occasionally throw custard pies at each other ... The suggesting of sticking heads in sand is frankly insulting. (This answer should also be in the santuary).

Nice answer China. But not many people can think like you showed there or at least they are afraid of accepting that they do think like that sometimes. What is rational for me might not be for someone else. There are so many other things in human life (that has nothing to do with religion or God) that can not be proven using rational methods. Love is one of them for example.
But do not worry as I said few people agree to disagree and are happy with that where others are determined not to agree even if they believe inside that they should. It is just like when someone makes a fatal mistake while driving on the road and still tries to blame you as they do not have courage to accept their mistake. Where my personal experience tells me that does not matter how serious it is but if you accept you are wrong that gives you satisfaction that you will never experience otherwise.
That is part of life so I should not be worried about that.

keyplus seen a lot of your stuff and mostly disagee with it from a pesonal persepective but admire your resolve as someone else said futrther down.
i think maybe all the religious people got bored and fed yup of the constant barrage of insulst and preaching from the unreligious and decided to as you say 'ingore it'.
from thar persepctive they have won. but it is a very hollow victory in my vieew.

China, In your haste to display your outrage, you have well and truly missed the point. My allusion to 'sticking heads in sand' does not relate to agreeing or disagreeing. That is the nature of debate, and as such, is something that should be welcome on any discussion site. It relates to a blanket refusal by the religious to respond to questions arising from their continual peddling of their beliefs. If people insist on telling everyone else that, on pain of eternal damnation, we must all live their way, then they have no cause for complaint when others who happen to disagree with them, challenge them - and if you want to post your response elsewhere, then do so.
Ankou, I think you'll find it's the religious who think they know everything. They know most of us here are going to hell, that's for sure.

not from what ive seen and experienced.
see, some of them might tell me i am going to hell, if thats what they bvelieve then fine and dandy. its not what i believe so it doesnt matter much to me. happy to let them believe their ting and me bleieve mine and ne'r the twain shall meet, but in doing so can converse without always treating them like numpties and lower beings, like you do.

Ankou - I think you are being disrespectful of a number of people and in particular Naomi.
In my experience she has always been rational, articulate and measured in her responses.
The fact is, as she states, most people who are religious refuse to answer or even confront the questions that are raised by thier beliefs, which they are quick to espouse on here but are so v e r y slow to defend.
Keyplus is a prime example of this. He constantly states that he has answered questions when he hasn't, after hoping to blind you with, an articulate argument that basicaly walks around in a circle.
And as for not beliving, I think I smell a rat.

Anuko- let me tell you one thing that I learnt in last year and half here. This site is most probably controlled by atheists. You say any thing or in other words you dare not agreeing with one and you would soon have five more firing at you. I have always been sure that they know each others emails or tel numbers and soon one gets stuck or have no rational answer, you would see more turning up to aid him/her. One more thing I better tell you. Never disagree with Naomi because only she does this job of disagreeing here. She is their propaganda secretary and can call any one over here to aid here on very short notice at any time of the day. She watches this site 24 hrs a day (name suggests that too). Together they will bombard you and will try confusing you and main line would always be one of these two,
1- You have no rational explanation....
2- You have not answered....
With time you would learn how to ignore, and most importantly who to ignore. I never knew I had the ability to do that, but I learnt.

HaHa - so now we have a conspiracy theory.
I asked you a question about the dissention between Sunni and Shiit muslims after you stated that there were many violent confrontations between Christian factions.
You refused to answer it - I have asked you many questions as have others - That are not direcly about religion but about terrorism, about why the Koran supports many things the west finds wrong and you run away.
You can spout all you want, but when you cannot defend the indefensible.
And now you have a conspiacy against you.

Keyplus, Ankou, et al; If you can not refute the assertions being made then you have every right to bury your head in the sand or if you prefer to question your own beliefs. But your inability to deal rationally with the substance of the message is not an open invitation to attack the messenger
and this missing link between humans and apes has been found. That might be why they have been lying low for a couple of days.

Dave- once you said that you became an atheist because you could not get answers of your questions from Christian priests. I believe that you have a habit of not getting your answers.
But I will try solving your problem yet once again.
About Shia and Sunni. I know you do not like my style but if I could ask you a question to answer your question.
How much did you know or hear about Shia and Sunni conflict before USA attacked Iraq?
Be honest and tell me about this and then post all your question you have about Quran and I will try answering all. However if you the answers do not satisfy you then of course that is entirely an individual perception.
So please feel free posting all your questions on a different thread and lets see if I answer those of not.
