I read an article in the paper, about a boy (American), who is supposed to be the reincarnation of a ww2 fighter pilot killed in the Battle of the Pacific,

In the article, he had said to his father, that he chose him to be his father, while a spirit..

If this can happen, and spirits have freedom of choice to chose, the how come so many children are born to already proved bad parents?.

If this could happen wouldn't you know the answer being a spirit yourself before choosing to be born to the parents you chose?

That guy may believe that that's what happened but it doesn't mean you have to, however if you do choose to believe in the supernatural then you are better off making your own mind up about life's questions than relying on others beliefs as you will be a stronger person for it.
Because what you are proposing is a lot of superstitious nonsense!
Sorry.

Hi Lonnie, there is one train of thought that says all spirits (or souls, if you like) have to experience all aspects of life in order to learn and to eventually, and ultimately, achieve perfection. Once that goal has been attained, continual reincarnation into an earthly body ceases and they remain peacefully at one with the universe for eternity.

I can't say it's rubbish, because, like anyone else, I simply don't know. No one does.
To answer that interesting question, one would have to accept or believe in the existence of spirits.
I don't so I will read the posts with interest.

ll_billym , I personally, don't believe in any of it, but there are people who do, and I was hoping one of those might come on this thread.

Mr Veritas, its only nonsense to those of us who don't believe it,

luna-sea, thats a very good reply, and what you say is true, but as i've said above, I was hoping a believer in this might come on, and give us some insight.

Hi naomi, thanks for your answer, its very interesting, and like luna's, very good, but they normally are from you.

Sqad, yes, it will be interesting, if a believer comes on, I sincerely hope at least one does, it'll make for a good discussion.
Are these the ones who were on the tele the other day?
If so it looked like a big swizz to me.
Hi Lonnie, I meant to say I don't believe that anything is Supernatural. If these things do happen, I think there is a natural explanation, but we just haven't found it yet.

"many wonderful things happen and Scientists can't explain them away"

Which is somehow different from "I will never accept rational explatation for things that I like to think of as mysterious"?
-- answer removed --
Jake, No one here has said "I will never accept rational explanation for things that I like to think of as mysterious", so I don't think it's entirely fair to intimate that they have. That implies that there is currently a rational explanation for everything that happens in this universe, which there isn't - and that science has an explanation for everything - which it doesn't.

Thanks everyone for your answers and contributions, I apologise if I sounded a bit sharp on some last night, just a tad too much of hard stuff, anyway, its a pity that no-one who believes in this came on, but never mind.

Thanks again.
Lonnie, sorry, I posted on here and it didn't register! I became so tired and thought yours connected with Jake's 'What is the Soul?' question, I posted on there instead. I don't know if I totally answered the last question you posed but I've had enough now. I really hope, if you do read what's written that maybe there is some thing helpful you can derive from it? Although I think other posters have answered your questions spiritually well. It is a personal, subjective belief. I found 'The Celestine Prophecy' to be an excellent book on the energy of the Soul and can answer your questions. However I cautiously advise the book as it is not to every one's taste. It starts of too simplified but perservere with it as the book draws upon many eastern philosophies and although constantly summing up, it is really good when the hole of the book is read.

Thanks for coming on Seadragon, good of you,

I posted this question, because, even though, as i've said, I personally don't believe in reincarnation, therefore spirits choosing who to be born to, I do have an open mind, and would not knock anyone who believes it..

I read that story I think, a couple of weeks ago, and it just stuck in my head, and its still there, buzzing around and won't go, you know, the can they, can't they, why certain parents if they already know they are bad parents, and so on.

A million connotations.
I understand what you are saying Lonnie. And I'm not 'copping' out but this really is a life-long study and finding some sort of 'answer' I suppose that you can live with in the short time that we have or that makes life and its challenges easier for you to deal with is really what it's all about? Whatever your belief - from atheist to religious to spiritulism.

My personal opinion, at this point in my life is that I don't believe in reincarnation either - in the strict sense. Not in Karma and deliverance. I find it difficult to grasp that a 'God' would punish a person for 'sins' committed in another life? It's like slapping a child every now and then, without explanation. The child would never know/understand or learn why? For me, it doesn't tie in with the 'goodness' (I use that word broadly) of what God is all about.

Bad parents - I think Souls just move from one to another. There is no purpose or reason - that is a human concept. Our language is really inadequate in explaning this and I am limited in my vocabulary and knowledge to try and explain it. If we lived in a Utopia - a perfect world - would that not be a hell? Is a human not a better human after some suffering or adversity in their life, assuming that they can cope with it? This is shaky ground. And the Soul only offers as a guide, in my view the actual experience and coping mechanism is human? I have to go now but quickly, my belief is - 1)Out of all things bad, come good 2) Everything no matter how small, happens for a reason - we just don't all see it or maybe not at that time?
Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh. Why so Souls choose bad parents? Were they 'bad' parents, I don't know? I will read the article at some point - sorry.

I've often thought about how evil acts are explained in the world, why etc? In relation to a belief in the Soul - I put it down to, the acts being human and the Soul being non-judgemental. If the Soul is in a parallel universe, i.e metaphysical plane (e.g we don't 'see' ultra violet rays but they exist. Gravity exists as we 'see' its effects but not its substance, animals detect heat coming from bodies yet we don't see the heat around them with the naked eye) then emotions etc are human and don't affect the Soul. Remember the trinity of body, mind and Soul? The 'bad' stuff is all in the personality of a human? The Soul just moves along as our guide on a metaphysical plane/cosmic universe.

I believe the acts of a human don't affect the Soul. But the Soul can affect the acts of a human. And every human I believe, good or bad, has a Soul. I say this cautiously as there have been reports of 'evil' spirits - so maybe I should say that once a Soul leaves a human body, if the body is really corrupt or really good, then maybe a 'remnant' of the human mind attaches to the Soul temporarily?

Thats an excellent explanation of your thoughts Seadragon, but all i'll come back on is this, which is similar to the way I think 1)Out of all things bad, come good

I believe that there is good in everyone, unfortunately, for some its too late,, and others, it just takes longer to come out, sometimes with help.
There are afew atheists on this site! When it comes to the 'bad' things people do - I mean the horrendous, sickening acts people perpetrate, you'll probably find an inadequate answer in any religious or spiritual belief. The only way to really explain why a person would and does commit a diabolical act is due to human nature and not anything divine.

I'm of on a tangent now but I was listening to the radio the other week, I don't know if you live in England and heard of the 'Hell boys?' About 10 and 11 years old? They did some really sick stuff to 2 other 10/11 years olds. But what was interesting is that I am unsure as to what I think about whether people are born 'evil' - which then presupposes a number of things. Anyway this woman, a manager of a rehabilitation care home or something was saying that people aren't born 'evil' and it is bad parenting and social neglect that needs to be addressed. Her experience is that once these kids who commit such crimes experience proper relationships and care, they often start to question their acts and 'hate' themselves. They are very suicidal and at their most vulnerable then. Some successfully commit suicide. But she said that you have to catch those kids young because once they are past a certain age, there's no hope for them. Sometimes the good that comes out of the bad, isn't for that person but for others?
Seadragon, you say 'there are a few atheists on this site!', which appears to indicate that anyone who doesn't believe in a God, or religion, cannot believe that men have a soul - but that isn't true. I believe we have a soul, but I don't believe that it - or anything - is supernatural.
